Out-the-Door price of a 2007 Buddy

Hi all,

We all know that most of the time scooters sell for a bit above MSRP. What
sort of fees and approximate amounts would you expect, say, for a new Buddy (MSRP $2599)? Virginia Tax is 4%, so that's about $110. Registration about $30, plus a $10 title fee. Then there's dealer prep/freight.
ScootRichmond advertises that to be about $180 on their web page. Grand
total, (unless there's some other fees I'm not aware of) would be:
$330. Which seems fair enough.

Reason I'm asking, I was quoted almost $700 at another dealership, and
was wondering what other "fees" might have been thrown into the mix. Or did they just figure they had a live one on the hook?

What sort of Out-the-Doors did the rest of you pay?

TIA!

I purc hased my 2007 Buddy 125 Italia from Scoot Richmond. They are a wondeerful dealership & very helpful. I would trust their pricing. They also delivered my scooter to me in Falls Church.

Yes, I'm certainly looking at ScootRichmond for a possible purchase. I didn't know they would deliver to the DC area though. What did they charge for delivery?

The local dealership (Colemans) has decided to get out of the Genuine Scooter line. They have decided to go with Kymco now.

For a 2007 125cc creme Buddy: $2599 MSRP, plus $200 dealer prep = $2799 OTD! Free 63 mile delivery, and no nonsense about hidden fees. And since I bought mine in a different State (PA), I took care of the 7% sales tax and motor vehicles fees afterwards in NJ, where I live.
Don't remember what they were, prolly about another $250 combined, but I don't consider that as part of the price the dealer charged me as he had nothing to do with it.....

Except that in most cases those things are taken care of at the dealer (tax and tag and title) so they have everything to do with it!!

I would have to dig out my invoice but I think I paid around $550 for all the fees (including tax tag and title) but FL tags are pretty expensive the first time around.

The dealer's just handling the paperwork for you and saving you a trip to the DMV, and there's no room for negotiation there.

Sure, it's money you gotta spend when you buy it, but I don't consider it part of the purchase price, and it has nothing to do with choosing a dealer as they all handle it the same way, and if they don't, you're spending the same money an hour later at the DMV.

Ahhhhh, but you don't have to leave this job to the dealer. If you only wanna pay true price (and you're afraid the dealer is "padding" these fees) (which is illegal BTW) you can tell the dealer you'll handle the tax , title, and registration fees yourself. Then go and stand in line yourself, and do so...
EVERY State has some sort of title and registration fees, and most have sales taxes too. To include this in what you consider the dealer is charging you is, to say the least, grossly unfair, IMO..

here's how it all breaks down here at Scoot Richmond.

Buddy 125 MSRP $2599
Prep and Freight $180
for an out of the door price of: $2779

The prep and freight includes inspection sticker, 30 day tag, and all of that good stuff.

The total fees etc you pay at the DMV:
Registration: $27.50
3% sales tax: $77.97
Title fee: $10
In addition, folks that live in certain parts (generally NoVA) of the state have all sorts of extra fees and stuff. That's why we don't do the DMV paperwork here--we have so many customers from other parts of the state (and even other states) that it just makes it easier for everyone to get sorted properly.

and that is how that works here.

Right but the OP was adding those in to the costs listed in the first post (and it seems that most times a question about out-the-door prices comes up here the prices quoted include tax tag and title, but I could be imagining that) so I think it's fair to include them in answers to this thread. I realize it's not part of the purchase price, I just thought it would be helpful to point out!
