hi everyone. new buddy 50 owner in manhattan here. i bought one used for my gf last week, 2006 buddy 50, cream, 2000 miles, like-new condition. we live in manhattan and so far it's been just fine for getting us around the City streets. it tops out around 40 with both of us on, but only on long straightaways with timed traffic lights. otherwise we've been cruising with traffic at around 30ish. i was worried at first that the 50 couldn't handle both of us ... together we're around 280 lbs, max.
anyway, thanks to the info on this board i was able to make an informed purchase last week, so thanks to all.
my only complaint right now is that after commuting to work this morning, my knees are still freezing! anyone have any advice?

Yep.
1. Overpants, such as these from Hein Gericke (

2. Wait until it warms up.
Anyway, welcome and watch those cabs!

thanks for the tips guys. it was 24 degrees here in the City this morning and i scootered in to work, but i wore my north face ski pants over my suit-pants and it worked out pretty nicely. i even managed to stay warm after hitting about 45 mph on a windy (1/2 tailwind i guess) West Side Highway (between 23rd street and battery park). woop!

all scooterists in nyc deserve a medal of bravery! i hate taxis here in seattle, they're so damned unpredictable in their maneuvers; i've been in nyc and the number of taxis there is tons more than here. bravo to you all!

You're going to think this is really weird, but you can solve that problem really easily with a couple cheap drug-store knee braces. The nice neoprene one target sells will do the job, too, but what I have in mind are the really cheap WalMart brand ones. They'll keep you knees from freezing. Can't say they're much good as knee braces, though.
P.S. My hat's off to you riding in Manhattan. Be careful out there!

Did you freeze all 3 of your knees?
(your left knee / your right knee / and your we-knee?

)

no no my wee-knee is just fine, thanks.
so glad for your concern though. really.
anyways, i've been looking into those lap-blankets. they are freaking expensive!!
i tried the knee brace idea the other day and actually it worked. not quite as warm as the ski pants, but at least i'm not swish-swish-swishing around everywhere i go. i get strange looks when i make my way down my office hallways in the morning, and my cat just about had a heart attack when she heard me swishing from the elevator to my apartment door.
