Black for pink

Post by khaiku »

I'm thinking about getting a pink Buddy 125 but am wondering if the pink footboard area (the textured part) is replaceable. I'd like to put the black there like it is on all the other colors. It doesn't look as cheap and surely wouldn't get dirty as fast. Has anyone done something like this? Is it possible? How much would it cost?

Thanks!

It is possible to change the body pannels on the buddy, inc the footboard. I looked into this with my dealer at one point. I don't remember the exact price, but most of the pannels are not that expensive. The front pannel w/ the buddy 125 sticker is under $30.

The insides can be replaced, if you dont like the entire bike being pink, you can replace the insides with black, I think it would look better with pink/black. But since it is plastic, I'm sure it wouldnt cost too much, atleast it isnt made of steel.

When you get it done, please do post pics in the Scooter Gallery!

are you talking about just the rubber "floor mat" or the plastic parts that have a rougher texture to them?

Either can be replaced with relatively little cost. If your not mechanically oriented, you may want to have the dealer replace the molded plastic pannels with the rougher texture.

it's definitely replaceable and affordable... actually just try asking your dealer if they can do it for you :)

do you mean the rubber mat on the bottom that covers the battery? or the matte plastic where the glove box is?
i'd recommend changing it because mine is filthy.

and p.s. definitely get a pink buddy. i would like there to be more members in the NAPS [ North Austin Pink Scooters ]. right now, i am the only one.

I asked the dealer and the total with installation for all 7 or so pieces would be $310. It would be less expensive just to buy a new "non-pink" one with the black already there. Poor guy looking through the parts list in Chinese was really funny...

Depending on paint choices and how fancy you want to get it's about $400 to have an entire buddy repainted at a body shop in Cincinnati. Thats assuming you use a standard automotive color (not metallic) and take the body panels to the shop to be painted.

WHAT?! That seems really high for just the floorboard "matte" plastic panels. And how is it seven panels? I count two: the floorboard and the glovebox. Does. Not. Compute. Hmm...I'll pester my local shop and report back!

Seems steep to me also. At least from the quick conversation I had at Metro Scooter.

It was $190 for the parts and $120 for the installation. There are at least 7 parts if you look at it. Some of the smaller ones could probably stay pink, but I'm sure they're also the least expensive. The panel under the seat is two pieces. Plus one in the middle of it, etc...

Yeah I was adding it up in my head and I was thinking that there are a lot of smaller parts (like is the glovebox itself separate from the part it's attached to? I can't remember. I know that the air flow cover is a separate part too.

A lot of those parts might not be too hard to install yourself... so much of the Buddy is easy to tear down with a screwdriver!

Ahh. that makes sense. I wasn't including labor in my estimate. I figured it would take some time, but I could do the swap myself.

Why were the parts listed in Chinese? The Buddy is made in Taiwan.

Chinese Mandarin is the official language of Taiwan.

I'm taiwanese, and I can confirm Chinese is spoken in taiwan, speaking true taiwanese is looked down upon in public because of past dictator spies, some people are still loyal to a dictator/leader that isnt even in power currently.

I'd buy the parts and do the switch myself, if you can take it off, you can put it back on, but people in the past have said it takes 2-3 hours to take apart and put together.
