170i Buddy no spark

Post by Ruckenstein »

Hey guys, I’m going to look at a used 170i for sale that is not running and was looking for a repair manual to help diagnose a no spark issue. I couldn’t find any help in the service manual. It was actually pretty weak in the no spark troubleshooting department.
Coil, stator, plug, resistor have all been replaced. Are there maybe any safety sensors that could keep it from sparking?

Thanks!

I only have a 150 wiring diagram handy, which may or may not be similar, but in the case of the 150, a fault in the run/stop switch (the one near the throttle) will interrupt spark. And that switch is not necessarily prone to failure, but they've certainly been known to fail on occasion.
