Buddy 50 Front Brake Help

Post by tmannion87 »

I was attempting to change out the front brake pads on my Buddy 50 and wasn't paying close enough attention during disassembly. Can anyone here tell me where exactly the "yoke spring" goes. It's part #22 in the attached image. I feel like it should be super straightforward but I'm clearly missing something. Thanks in advance for any help!

That goes in from the top to help align the pads. See if 1:20 tells you anything: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6s8Vx73mfKM

OK that's what I thought but couldn't get it in there for the life of me. It gets installed before the pads/bolt correct? And does the arrow need to be facing up (towards the rider) or down (towards the pads)? Thanks!

Did you watch the video? Go to 2:55. Pads first, then the clip.

Yep, that did the tricks. Thanks for your help. Here's a pic for anyone who might have the same problem in the future:

You're welcome. How many miles did you get out of the last set of pads? I've seen them go as low as 2,200 on a 50. I've seen 125 pads last 9,000+. I don't know why.

This photo was very helpful, thank you!

My 50cc's brake pads went 2086 miles and started to make a metallic rubbing sound. They were worn, but not yet through to the metal of the pad. These were the original 2009 pads, so perhaps age contributed to their low mileage.

I still have the original brake pads on both of my Buddies. The '07 125 is at 18,800 miles and the '12 170 is at 39,700 miles. The rear shoes still have plenty of material left as well. I don't really consider myself a slow rider, my rear tires usually only last ~2500 miles, but I must be easy on the stopping. I use the scoots to commute to work, so there is a fair amount of stop and go.
