Replace the motor? Why? I take it you found the cause of the smoke then. What was the cause? But seriously, did you look into it at all? I would check/suspect:

Fouled spark plug.
Bad tank of gas.
Is it loosing oil?
Oil low?
Overfilled with oil?
Could be a defective auto-choke assembly.

The carb also has a rubber thing in it (I just woke up) that will do strange things if it gets a pinhole in it. Speaking of, anything been done to the scooter recently? Mods, service work or crashed?

If all the above seem good and it still rides correct then add some Techron Fuel System Cleaner to a fresh tank of gas and see if it clears up.

You could also do a compression check if it seems low on power.

Finally, the spark plug cap will get loose eventually and need replacing.

P.S., check the valves. Your'e getting close to that time.

You can't get a new engine, at least not easily. I wish Genuine would sell complete engines. It's made by PGO.

Maybe when scooter wakes up he can explain to the rest of us how a hole in the diaphragm or a bad spark plug cap can make your engine smoke.

I'd still check the spark plug. Is it brown/correct color or nasty caked up black? Think about it: if the plug is the correct color and nothing is obstructing the electrode then I'd next check if the muffler was somehow clogged or gummed up.

I still hate that stupid rubber thing on the carb. It complicates a simple carb. I still don't fully understand why it's on there. Something to do with balancing altitude is what I heard. I just know to inspect it for damage and make sure it's fully seated.

I've never had a 4-stroke motor smoke like described, even on old beater cars I paid $500 for that had 200,000 plus miles on them. On 2-strokes of course, especially the old weird choke systems on a Yamaha Beluga 80 2-stroke.

Why replace a whole engine with low miles before trying/testing everything? I would not be funny if he purchased a new motor and then swapped the carb and exhaust over and the same thing happened. The problem is before the plug (color will show this) or after.
