Gas tank install trouble

Hi team, been lurking around for a bit. Decided to jump into a 2009 buddy 150 that's been sitting for years. The owner placed a tiny yard trimmer tank in place of the real tank. No idea why it's was removed. I don't know what it's supposed to look like??I ordered a new tank from scooter dynasty and a few bits I thought I would need. Petcock, hoses, cap, fuel gauge sender(three wire), and filter.

It's big, about 2 inches larger than the mounting frame. Am I missing somthing? Is there a bracket or strut that it monts to?

Is the two wire fuel sender harness going to marry up to the three wire on the new unit?

Maybe someone has been down this road before.

I hope not, but if you have a thought or advice, please share.
Thanks!

Buddy used two different gas tanks. Plastic was used on the older models, then they started making them out of steel. The frames are different for each tank. You can not fit a steel tank into a frame meant for a plastic tank and vice versa. I would bet you have the wrong tank. The correct gas tank will slide right into the correct frame.

That makes sense. I felt getting forceful wasn't a good idea. Can only get so creative with a hammer, soldering iron and a hand full of bolts. In the end it would leak or worse.

I'll order a metal tank and see how it sets in there.

Not sure how scooter dynasty will be on the return, I'll know shortly.

Thanks for the reply DeeDee!

You're welcome. I have one of each in my shop right now. You have a steel tank frame. The plastic tank frame does not have the extra vertical posts at the rear.

Are you in Colorado? Did you buy that from Scott?

I'm in Oklahoma. Got it from a lady out in potawatomi County. She laid it down with 108 miles on it and never got it back on the road. Replaced a few cosmetic items and the front head light. Once the tank is in order it should be a solid rig.

I am looking for a 50cc unit to teach my daughter the ways of two wheels. She can burn through gas on an atv. Need to get her up on an enduro at some point.

I'll be in Vail in a few weeks. Hundred degree Temps are on the way to us here in Oklahoma. I'm ready for some mountain Temps and scenery.

Back from the cool nights in vail to the heat wave here in Oklahoma.

Gas tank arrived from scooter dynasty. It fits!

Two new questions. I didn't take the old tank off, and I feel like someone made up a few vacuum connections.

The lower vacuum on the petcock/ pump?

And the fuel gauge connection. New unit is a three wire(white/green/yellow)? I think it goes to the 2 wire black/white black near the tail light?

Any advise or pictures would be great!

Your gas filter is backwards. The fat end goes toward the carburetor.
