Re: just fun mods or insane?
There was a Buddy 170 for sale on Facebook marketplace a year or two ago that had a carb installed. I wanted to ask some questions about it but didn't get around to asking before it sold.
If you do it I would be interested to know what parts you use and how hard it is to get the jetting dialed in.
As for the kickstarter, yes you can install a kickstarter on a 170 that has been done before.

You'll need a 125 stator, cdi, fuel tank w/ petcock and the wiring to install. Is your fuel injectin giving you problems? I have a complete CVT cover with kickstart off a 125 if your interested. Maybe leave the scooter alone and take up pickleball if you're bored.

You could also sell the 170i and get a 125 or 150 and hot rod it instead. A good BBK for the 125/150 would be pretty quick.

Re: just fun mods or insane?
to be clear. I was thinking about this before a neighbor sold there buddy 170i for $1.00 this has been sitting outside for some time and is now running I am going to replace the 125 motor for this 170 with carb choices. stock 24mm cvk with jets or 26mm cvk with jets

Re: just fun mods or insane?
I'd go with a 26mm carb. The 24mm is a bit undersized for a 170cc.
The wiring harness and the stator will need consideration too.

yes stator and flywheel are different now just checking rollers and belt and doing a clean up. as I had wrote that it has some weathering . the aluminum has corrosion. best way to remove and clean this up? I plan on painting this motor in the future .
I am running a 26mm cvk in a 161 with prima pipe and stock intake that runs vary good.

I usually knock the loose stuff off with a brass brush. Then spray it down with SuperClean Foaming and agitate it with a plastic brush. Rinse it clean and if I'm trying to get some shine, I'll scrub it with WD40 and "0000" steel wool.

I'm curious why a carbed 170 would need a different stator? I thought the 170 stator just generated more watts than the 125 stator.
Also, would you have to change the voltage regulator if you changed the stator?

Re: just fun mods or insane?
I am using all 125 parts on the engine for now. installing in a 125 frame. the 125 stators a 6 pole. the 170 is a 12 pole I don't know if a 12 pole can work with a 125 flywheel. note the 125 flywheel has 1 tab on the outside for timing with pick up. the 170 has 1 larger tab and 23 smaller tabs with pick up. I don't know if a 12 pole stator will mate with a 6 pole regulator . it may let the smoke out? I am trying different things on the clean up on the motor I will report. also note I have sourced most of the cvk carb parts even the small diaphragm on the side of carb under bracket

Hard to say on the regulator/rectifier, the two models have different parts codes for that part. Poking at the parts diagrams on Scooter Lounge, the two units look physically different. You're using it to dump excess stator output to heat, govern voltage to a safe range and rectify AC current to charge the battery. I'd need to see the pin outs on both parts to see if they're interchangeable.
Not sure if the CDI pickup is in the same spot on both flywheels, but I know the Hall Effect sensor for the 170 needs to read the CDI trigger and the crank position (23 nubbies) for injector timing. I'd just use the full 125 flywheel and stator assembly. Or, get an NCY stator.
Diaphragm under the bracket sounds like the accelerator pump? If you're needing carb bits, check the Scooter Lounge. Genuine / PGO sells all the individual carb parts for the Keihin CVK24. Heck, I bought bits to fix my Aprilia Scarabeo 200's CVK26 there, since I haven't found another source that sells all the individual components (like the accelerator pump).

Re: just fun mods or insane?
I just got a 170 motor that I plan to install in my 125 so I am going to have some questions for you since you have already made the swap.
1. Did you install the oil cooler? If so how did you do it?
2. Have you installed any temperature sensors?
3. What size jets are you running?

Erik, the 170 block has two drillings on the block, approximately where the oil filter block mounts on a 125. I'm pretty sure a generic oil cooler kit (like this) can be used. The stock oil cooler and filter pod bolts to the frame with two M8 bolts, behind the battery box on a 150 and in front of the battery box on a 170i.
2. Have you installed any temperature sensors?
You could go freestyle here, as the factory sensor ties into the ECU, which you won't have.
3. What size jets are you running?
I think the stock 125 and 150 share the same jets. The pilot is a #38 and the main is a #92.
With the 170 kit I put on my Pamplona, I'm running bigger valves, a sportier cam and a 26mm Keihin carb. I plan to keep the #38 pilot, though maybe try a #40. For the main, I'm picking up a #100, #103 and a #105.
Since you're just going with a bigger bore and possibly bigger valves (haven't measured 170i valves), I'd start with a #96 main and maybe get a #98. These numbers assume a stock air filter, exhaust and cam.you can get real Keihin jets off JetsRUs, or maybe order generics off of Treatland.
