Modern Buddy

Accidentally overfilled by Buddy 125 (early morning and not enough light to see inside the tank…) and immediately experienced difficulty starting and stalls while idling/letting off the throttle. The forum indicates that fuel may have gotten in the evap canister. How does one purge the fuel from the canister? I've ordered a vented cap (I'm a brand new owner, I bought used, and I'm still waiting on my copy of the title, so I'd rather not drill the current cap until everything is copacetic). I'd love to ride without having to nurse the throttle, though. Will waiting allow the gas to evaporate, or is it stuck in the system? It's early morning at the time of this post, so I've yet to tackle this today. I did find it started more efficiently when the gas cap was removed. Thanks!

Strange. I have a 2023 Buddy 125 and have filled it to the very top (and overfilled it) several times and have never had an issue. Few questions for you though:
What year Buddy?
How many miles?
Any service records with it?

It should clear up by riding, how far will depend on how much you overfilled the tank. Last time I did it it took about 10 miles to clear up. If you really overfilled the tank it might take a lot longer. To fix the problem you have to get the extra gas out of the gas tank which means you either have to run the scooter or drain some gas out. Once you get the gas below the level of the overflow the evap system should dry out and the scooter will run normally.

If you have a 2008 or older scooter you have to be careful when filling the tank since most of those years don't have the metal ring in the gas tank to show you when you are full of gas.

It's a 2015 with 22,267 miles, and my records indicate it last received service at 14,820 miles. The shop/seller (who'd also performed the regular maintenance) went over it before completing the purchase, but I don't know whether he performed the maintenance routine.

scootERIK is right. Just drain the gas down a little and/or go for a long ride. I'll try and get a picture of the "max mark" on my metal tank equipped Buddy 125. I only OVER filled it twice, when I was switching over from a Piaggio Liberty 150 to the Buddy 125. I ride 30 miles a day during the work week so I spend a lot of time filling up.

Remove the system, and be done with this type of problem. Pull the hose off the intake manifold, and cap the nipple. Run a 1/4" line off the top of the gas tank hanging down the left side tucked away from the exhaust. At this point you can remove all the extra hose, rollover valve and canister, or leave them in place.

This was resolved (in the short term anyway) in the most pleasant manner. I noticed a loose line when I opened the compartment (the blue one in this photo) and reconnected it…. Don't know what caused it to fall off, but I'm looking for some spring hose clamps. 9mm, maybe?

That's the clear line coming off the intake manifold? The original has been replaced. That goes to your petcock. A ziptie snugged down will probably get 'er done.
