Modern Buddy

Hey all. It's time for me to tune up my scooter. I noticed ScooterworksUSA has a special for their tune up kit (https://www.scooterworks.com/products/t ... buddy-170i). Is there anything else you would recommend I get? I haven't properly tracked what has been done with the scooter, and I'd like to make a change for the new year. Figured this was a good start.

Your'e owners manual has the services listed and at what miles or time frame. The tune-up kit that Scooter Works sells is pretty thorough and priced rather fair. I've used the ScooterWest tune-up kits before as they have basic tune-up and more involved options, including belt, rollers etc. Scooter Works just started doing those all-in-one tune-up packages and I might try them next.

So your tune-up will basically depend on your current miles. I have a log book for my Buddy 125 and I stick to the manual pretty good. I might reuse a gasket here and there or skip changing the oil filter but its nothing that will effect the longevity of the scoot. I put around 10,000 miles a year on my Buddy strictly commuting in stop and go traffic. It's my workhorse and I rely on it getting me to and from work year round.

I believe that is about the most expensive way to buy those parts. I like the HiFlo 197 oil filter. It has a 17mm hex end for easy off and on. The three washers aren't needed. My Genuine dealer charges $15 for a new air filter. I spray mine with simple green and hose it of with a pressure nozzle from the garden hose. I have a spare, so one is always dry and ready. If you ride any amount of miles at all, buy your engine oil by the gallon, and your gear oil by the quart.
