I've noticed that the weekender motorcycle people are scurrying around town early this year like cockroaches when the lights have been turned on. Actually, I've noticed more during the week than usual.
I'm seeing a lot of stupid riding going on. No protection on except for a half-helmet, unsafe lane splitting, mcs that look like the owners should have called 800-sos-junk. Some dope that has a falling apart POS Honda Reflex (scooter) parking near me at my job's parking garage. He literally has wire holding up parts on his bike.
I think gas prices are forcing people on their bikes early this year. There's a good possibility that many people will consider MCs and scooter. So beware of the noobs!
Oh, oh Here they come and it's early this year!

The scenery only changes for the lead scooterist.

I noticed this as well. Lots of weekend riders out today, especially considering it was raining and that there was a freak 60-second hail storm. I chalked it up to warmer weather more than gas prices, but you may have a point.

Yep, we've noticed seasonal spikes in crash reports in the spiring and late fall/early winter. An unfortunate trend.coopdway wrote:Our trauma department always makes note of Spring's arrival when the first m/c victim rolls in. 'Red letter' weekends have motorcycle as well as snowmobile casualties.

We've had a TON of MC riders this week! Of course who can resist when its low-mid 70's for like 3 weeks straight!!! (rub it in summore)
... I've even seen a couple new scooterists today on Zumas wearing ABSOLUTELY NO PROTECTION WHATSOEVER, unless you count flip-flops & a tanktop!!! CRIPES! I'm pretty much a newby myself, but I play it safe (probably obsessive-compulsivley safe), I always wear a helmet with a face shield, riding jacket (even when it's hot), sweet biker gloves, kneepads, etc.
