Intro from another new owner
Not seeing a topic/thread just for new owners/members, guess I’ll make a new one, as I’ve seen others do, and say hello.
I’ve only known for ten days that Buddies exist, but now I have one.
Last spring I bought a used Honda Elite 80, but didn’t ride it much. It didn’t seem to start reliably, and the MSF courses were booked up, so I lacked confidence to ride. This year I got smart and scheduled the MSF class in the winter, avoiding the rush.
A week ago Sunday, I passed the course. The next day, I got my motorcycle endorsement and discovered Buddys while looking for a replacement for the Honda. I went to my local Genuine dealer, 6 miles from home (yea!), and put down a deposit on a seafoam green ’08 125, due in on the next Genuine shipment.
(Meanwhile, I discovered that the Honda starts up just fine outdoors. No, I wasn’t trying to start it in my living room, but in the garage, right next to the big OPEN door.)
Last Monday at 2, the dealer called & told me the shipment had arrived. I went right down in my Ranger. The scoot was already in their shop. They serviced and installed the windshield while we completed the sale. The dealer lent me his ramp and tiedowns (he now has a faithful customer) and I had it at home by 4:30.
I’ve been busy & we have had a blast of crummy winter weather, so after 3 days I have only a mile on it.
That manual is a hoot, isn't it? Glad they told me not to burn my dog!
Sure enjoy this forum, esp. advice on locks and breaking in.
Cheers,
Cara

Cara,
welcome aboard and congratulations on your purchase !
You have chosen a great product and are now a member of one of the most polite, educated, animated, funny and welcoming forums out there.
Now go out there and see if you can get that odometer to start rolling the second wheel to the left of the "1"

, but you will find it's a great scoot! I was gonna get a seafoam, but they said it would be a long time, so I went ahead & got the Italia... It's a beaut! Congrats, are you still going to keep your old scooter or are you selling it? Either way, hope that weather clears up, have fun!!!

Thanks.
The Honda might come in handy for a while. The plan was to sell it to offset part of the cost of the Buddy, but my son seems to like it.
My married daughter also wants a green Buddy; decided that all on her own, not knowing of my recent activities. (All I'd said was, "Have you seen Genuine scooters?") I told her that she needs to learn to ride on the Honda before she can try the green one.
BTW, we only found that the Honda runs OK when we rolled it out to take its pic for Craigslist.

But not completely uninformed. I took the MSF class on a Vino. Researching Vinos, I found the Buddy in that head-to-head comparison on justgottascoot.com. Buddys (Buddies?) look a little more plasticky, but have a better warranty, bigger fuel capacity, better colors - it was pretty simple.kinda a snappy decision ...

And you probably will the minute it hits the pavement, where you are....dealer is delivering it today sometime. I cannot wait to get out riding...
It's been in the 30s & 40s here, way below normal.
Must be hard to wait for your dealer. Mine was going to deliver, but I said I'd take mine to go, so they strapped it in for me.

scootin in seattle
Monstergirl,
Thanks!
Just read about your fall. Glad you made it out intact.
I don't actually ride in Seattle myself, but I worked downtown for 23 years. I got the idea to get a scooter when I started a new job in beautiful downtown Des Moines, 3.5 mi from home, last year.
As I've said, it's been too cold & s*&%%y out for me to log that second mile on my new scoot. You are brave! I know that free parking in Seattle is a powerful incentive. But Spokane St. is a spooky place w/all that container traffic.
W Seattle looks like a good place to scoot. Maybe I'll scoot up there when it gets warm.
Thanks!
