Gas Gauge Accuracy???

Post by tyger23 »

Just scootin' along today and noticed the gas gauge is fully on "E".

Having been the first tank and only 38 miles, I didn't think much about it. Perahps the dealer didn't fill 'er up....

However, when only one gallon went in, it left me wondering - how accurage is your gas gauge?

It will improve as your Buddy becomes fully broken in.

I usually run mine pretty low, down to E once or twice, but I never put in more than about 1.2 - 1.3 gal.

Yeah, my blur gauge says "E" a half-hour after I fill up, when it's probably half-full, it's pretty useless.

I am with Illnoise on this one.
on a 2 gal tank, it reaches E at about 1.2 gal.
I am now trying to go by mileage, as in, I fill at 500 miles and I should be OK until at least 650, regardless what the gas gauge says.
Beer is the answer . . . what was the question?

i have almost 500miles on my new buddy and it gets to the topside of E within about 30-40 miles each time I fill up, then easily makes another 30-40 miles before I get worried and stop to fill her up. I've never put more than 1.01 gallons in her.

since I've not had her that long, I haven't known about how many miles I can get on a tank to estimate that way.

one day i'll feel comfortable with how far she can go on one tank.

also to note: I've gone half as far on my new scooter in the last 4 weeks as I did on my old scooter in one full year.

When mine is on E I usually can put about 1.5 gal in (could put more but I am afraid of overfilling it). So I guess it's pretty accurate.

Gauge reads too low

Post by aircooled »

Just bought my buddy - the gauge read 1/4 tank but it took only 9/10 of a gallon.

The needle was on the middle of the letter E yesterday and it took 1.15 gallons to fill it up. The max I have ever put in the tank was about 1.3.

Two tanks in a row now,

I've noticed that if the needle is anywhere close to E, you better be finding a gas station in a hurry.

My buddy goes from the beginning of "E" to resting on the peg faster than a Dodge Viper with Hennessey mods running 1000HP with rock-hard tires that refuse to hook-up.

Literally, it went from the beginning of E to resting on the peg in 7 miles.

Still got about 80 MPG, though, and only my second tank.

Gas mileage

Post by Howardr »

I've noticed that my St Tropez goes from 1/4 tank to "E" in a hurry. However, I have never put more than 1.2gal in her. Exactly how much fuel do the 150's hold, anyway?

I also have a St. Tropez and noticed the needle seems to go down quickly. As the needle dips down further, I make it a point to open up the tank and just take a quick peek inside for peace of mind.

I chalk it up to the break-in period and figure I'll get a handle on it in time. My last "fill-up" was .966 gallons, but it holds more I'm sure.

Ocasionally my needle doesn't raise from "E" after I crank the engine.

Sometimes after I fill up, it stays on "E" until the next time I start the engine.

When I picked up my Buddy, I swear, the dealer put gas in with an eyedropper. I was so happy scooting on my first day I nearly ran out of gas!

Mine is really accurate, I can go about 80 miles, about 1/4th of the tank left, simple math shows this is pretty accurate.

I have run COMPLETELY out of gas and had to walk my scoot to the station and still could only fit 1.2 gallons topping it off. My gauge is very accurate, there just wasn't a place to fill up at the time...

Wow, I wouldn't have expected that. Although I've had the needle resting on the peg a couple of times, I've never run mine completely out of gas. And the max I have put in is 1.473 gal. I fill to about a half inch below the white plastic part where the gas cap screws on. I thought I read somewhere that it was supposed to hold 1.6 gallons.

Yeah, I guess I didn't fill it quite as high as you... you don't get vapor lock filling to just under the white plastic ring?

I've never had vapor lock or dripping gas or anything like that. I figured if I kept it below the white ring I'd be safe. So far, so good.

I fill mine to right when it starts coming up the tube... surely from there to where you fill it isn't a whole 2-tenths of a gallon? I guess maybe it could be... I dunno.

Gee, isn't it funny to be talking about 2/10ths of a gallon? I love my scooter! :D
