About last night.

Last night was the first time I was really able to take the Pamplona out and really ride. The weather was nice on the way to meet up with my fellow scooter riders. Returning home, I froze. I am looking into one of those lap skirts. Any suggestions?
Anyway, I was pushing her pretty good. Speedo said 65 and I still has room for more throttle. She was nice and stable. However, on the ride home, I was so cold, I just wanted to get home. So, I pushed even more. The speedo was slightly above 70, she is still going nice and stable and ....... a cop hits his lights. After the official "license and registration" he reminded me that I was going a little too fast and that I was in a 45mph zone. I asked him (I tried to not show how excited I was) how fast he clocked me and he said 68.

At that point I wanted to jump for joy and then remembered I was about to get a ticket. Thats when the scooter Gods came down from the heavens. The officers words, "now how can I give a moped a ticket? Just slow down." I wanted to correct the ignorant fool by saying "this is not a moped, its a scooter!!!" But it was either that or a ticket. So, just as I was about to get ready to leave, the officer asks, "Where did you get your moped? how much? how the mpg? etc, etc, etc." I took the opportunity to clarify that I was riding a scooter and then answered his other questions. He than stated "I am going to have to get me one of these. You have a nice evening."
My first "almost" ticket.

OK, was not sure what I was going to read after your title . . . yes, man's minds are awful
What a nice story. 68 on a 45 would have been expensive

. . . then again he is probably wondering . . . are the guys at the station really going to believe me about a "moped" that was doing 68? How nice of him . . . make sure you wave at him next time you see him and ask how his scooter purchase process is going! It is always good to make friends with the guys/gals in blue !

first of all be safe and slow down! Second, I call it it a Moped when it suits me. "It's Ok to park a moped here, right?". For some reason the whole moped thing does not bother me anymore at all.

I really didn't think anyone would be around and thats why I was pushing the speed. I usually don't ride that fast. There was noone else on the road. But it was nice to be able to keep up with traffic when I was in it and know that you have the power to pass if you need to. And since I really can't afford a ticket, I will be slowing down.

That would buy a lot of scooter fuel!
Before I had my license, I stuck to the neighborhood and the park across the street. While tooling around the park, a city worker flagged me down and asked me a ton of questions about the scoot.
And a few days ago, when I just couldn't fight the urge to run to the store for something (needed an excuse to scoot!) ... I got nervous. I'm sitting at stoplight when a city cop pulls up next to me. I got scared when he rolled down the window ... "Here it comes!" I thought. Instead, I get more questions about gas mileage, cost, etc. I've seen him since and I always get nods or waves.

wow- great story and yeah you are SUPER lucky! 23 over ... I think that could have ended up in a reckless driving ticket.
I love it - "now how can i give a moped a ticket?"
HAHA!!

Close call!
But you do realize the faster you go, the colder you feel?

There have been a couple of times that I've been caught out in the cold like that...the thing that kills me is not having gloves in such a situation. Ouch!
So if you were doing 70mph and he clocked you at 68, I wonder if Genuine finally fixed their "10% optimistic" speedometers?

Oh and on the lap apron thing- I have one that I got primarily for rain down here (we don't have the cold to deal with!) and I can say that it is definitely warm and toasty.
Mine is the Corazzo one.

i haven't checked my speedo, but it seems to be pretty accurate, at least way moreso than my old scooter. I wonder if all the intl's are more accurate???

lady, that is BALLER! ahhhh, it's seriously one for the books! congratulations not only on avoiding that ticket (although i certainly don't condone tearing through streets at night of all times, tsk tsk. hehe), but also planting the scooter seed of wonder and curiosity into one more cager's mind. double whammy, nice work, ms. milan.

18% optimistic here...
Luckily here in St. Louis, if it doesn't look like a "Harley" it's a moped. We get away with all kinds of whack shite here on our scooters. Cops are totally oblivious.
I've had the German number plates on my Berlin ever since I've owned it. Never been pulled over. Even had a cop at a gas station ask me about the plates... all he said was "cool!" and went on his way.

Sorry, no high fives from here. 68 in a 45 zone while your reactions are slowed from being cold and you are distracted pushing to get home quickly is an accident waiting to happen. None of us wants to see you scraped and your scoot banged up. Learn from it, adjust, ride safe, and enjoy.
OT silly thoughts

I'm not up much on the motorcycle culture, but don't the big boys call their motorcycles, scooters on occasion?
Enjoy your ride.

Ok.. I havent been pulled over on my scooter yet... but I wonder if MR. Milan would have gotten a ticket when MS. Milan did not.
sounds like you had a fun ride -
There are several roads around me that are posted under 50, but 70 would be a safe ride if the weather & traffic were right.
If only my Rattler 50 would do more than 50MPH
I can't drive 55!!! (really)

what about stickers that come with after market car parts? don't they add like 20hp when you put them on your car? if that's true then all we'd need is one on our scoots. we'd all be getting speeding tickets. hehehe

what a story...lol And to think you kinda doubted the Buddy when I first was telling you how great they are
Ride safe and enjoy.

You are right Corsair. I love love that scoot. I went out on Tuesday night. Scoot Around Town had a Mod night. Everyone got a kick out of the horn. i did take it easier on my way home. It was stupid of me to be going so fast. And I may not be as lucky the next time. I still think the cop exaggerated the speed a little. Still, I am going to borrow a GPS so I can see where the speedo stands. That way I can know with a little more certainty how fast I really am going. Don't want to take a chance on getting a ticket. I need one of the skirts.

I have the Corazzo lap apron and used it last fall into November.
I did not put the Velcro strips on my scooter and really not necessary the weight of the lap apron keeps it in placed. It is made to conform to your legs while you are sitting on the scooter. Very nice heavy fleece on the underside. Only comes in black. The outer shell is dense and well constructed. Not much to keep the backside warm.
Seemed kinda strange at first to put on and take off, but it is warm. I do wear lined jogging pants over my jeans, then the lap apron...this is in MN in 35 degree weather.
