Brake conversions possible group buy

Post by Smellybumlove »

ok many of you seemed interested in performance parts that you just dont get in the west, i thought i would show you all the possible brake upgrades for scooters.

all scooters are different and require a adapter kit for the fork, for the rattlers these have to be custom made and is a right pig of a job, for bubus and blurs its alot simpler with some off the shelf adapters availible for between $30-40 depending on size of disc, you cna keep standard size or go upto 230mm.

ok first and cheapest one is the brembo copys, these are of reasonably good quality but are not the same as the original brembos.
why bother you ask?
well its only under $60 for the caliper and is much better than any standard scooter brake (excluding the big boy scoots of course!)
they come either with brembo logo or without
Image

Heres another brembo copy but made by one of the top tuner brands in taiwan RPM, these are identical to the brembo in everyway but design and offer a much higher build quality than the 'knock offs' with a price.... $90
Image

next up is the RPM radial 4pot, these things are tiny, i mean they are so cute you will probably fall in love with one and want it. they weigh almost nothing and offer amazing performance for the size.
best bit is the price $100.
Image

This is RPM's biggest brake, its again a 4 pot radial but its HUGE, around twice the size of the dinky radial above, rumour on the street is that these are identical to the stupid expensive radial brembos, weigh just under a kilo and cost $130ish.
Image

how about a yamaha replica, these arent 'knock offs' as such as the quality is very high, they are very small like the tiny rpm and offer similar performance.
they do cost more though as the yamaha boys love them, around $135.
also fitting kits are very hard to come by for anything but a yamaha, but anythings possible ;)
Image

This is my brake, its like a radial but its not.. its made by the best of the tuner brands RRGS, they make the best suspension and brake kits fullstop.
i can honestly say this brake is amazing with very good modulation, plus it looks super cool in polished alloy.
its similar in size to the tiny RPM and weighs little less which is why i bought her.
price is a bit higher at $125 but its worth it.

i can get these with the right adapter for a rattler 110 no problem as mine can be used as a jig!

ok there are 2 more rrgs calipers, they are both very similar in looks and only differing in size, weight and power.
this is the medium sized one, similar to a brembo radial but lighter and smaller.
price is $140
the larger version is only $10 more.
Image

lastly the radial brembos, i can get genuine ones at $230 and replicas at $140, i dont reccomend the 'replicas' as the paint finish sucks compared to the original.
Image

ok all those prices are for the calipers only, 220mm discs in many different designs (wavy/non wavy, floating/non floating) cost around $80-$110.

so for a RPM diddy radial ($100) plus the adapter ($30) and depending if you are upgrading to a larger disc ($100) or keeping original ($0).
postage as a worst case would be $60 sent EMS express, cheapest being $30.

one problem i have is that i dont have paypal and refuse to use them again, its a long story and have typed about it so many times in the past that i dont want to do it again!.

hope this is helpfull.

I would think the parts people would be most interested in would be a cylinder kit and variator upgrade for the Buddy and a cylinder kit for the Blur 150s. Anything like that over there?

I'm thinking along the same lines.
In addition to cylinder kits (the main thing I’m interested in) and xmission upgrades: How about tire and wheels?
So far the Buddy 125 brakes have been more than adequate for me.

I think the Buddy could use a front suspension upgrade and a rear disk brake, but that's just me. I keep bottoming out the front shock on road seams. Then again, I'm a big guy.

I second a big-bore kit for the Blur! A performance variator wouldn't suck either. Supposedly there's an exhaust to be had but I don't know where to find it.

a piston kit is easy enough to get, i will see your options today.
also performance variators and the like are very easy, if somebody could get me the dimensions of everything and maybe a picture of their motors i can find out without having to borrow a bubu!

That second brake (black one) caliper you posted made by RPM looks
identical to the stock front caliper on the Blur except that the Blur
caliper is gold color and does not have the RPM logo. The mounting holes
are even the same. Just an observation. :D

yep your right, this is because the blur uses a knock off brembo!.
the rpm brake uses different seals and pistons and is identical on the inside to a brembo.

What ever it is, it's strong enough to do stoppies at any time! :D
My only problem with them is that at slow speeds, they tend to be "grabby", i.e., seem to grab-release-grab-release. I may have a warped rotor causing this though.
