Modern Buddy

I have a new buddy and if i leave it outside and it rains will it damage anything or create problems?

awwwww, cover it! once the water droplets dry, water stains are gonna be visible, besides i've read on some of the forums here that if you have a pink scooter or any other light colored scooter, black residue will come out from around the edges of the seat and stain your plastic panels below it!

Rust.

Rust finds its way onto areas where chrome pieces are attached, dings on wheels, etc. Insignificant at first, but not attractive.

Aluminum doesnt rust too easily. But it wont me hurt, if you leave it outside alot, I'd consider a cover, even if a cheap one. If riding it in the rain, you cant help it, but it'll be ok. Just clean it up when you get home with some paper towels. Otherwise if it just lightly rained, it'll be fine.

Go down to your local bicycle shop and buy a "heavy duty" rain cover, it will run you about $29.99 plus tax, and its worth every penny, if they don't have it in stock tell them to order it from "J&B importers", I have a wind shield and a top box and it fits perfectly over both and covers down to about eight or so inches from the ground on both sides, I've had mine for about one year and its doing just fine.

Shouldn't hurt it at all.
Scooters have been parked outside in Italy, India and China for 1000's of years with no problems

My last motorcycle got rust inside the hex nuts. Not a big deal, but I didn't like looking at it!

Yeah you won't do any "damage" to the scooter by it being out in the rain but there are cosmetic things to consider- the chrome on the mirrors and if you have a chrome back rack are prone to rust pretty quickly.

Then there's the black marks that some Buddys experience (what rosa said) and some of the interior panels can fade.

There's definitely no absolute NEED to cover it but it can't hurt.

Also, why red is red.

Speaking of rust... I just noticed some on the center kickstand. I keep that thing so clean, WTF!? Has this happened to anyone else?

i've heard that a bolt or two of lightning will really mess up your buddy.

It's from grinding it down. Paint usually would protect it, but once you grind down to the bare metal, a light rust builds up. Nothing to worry about.

That is what I figured. It just kind of freaked me out. My Buddy is in great condition otherwise (I mean... aside from the few scratches it suffered from my incompetent tie down jobs.)

...these scooters are manufactured for the Taiwan and Asian markets. Places that tend to get, you know, *monsoons*. A cover is a good idea if you're parking it at home, but unless you see a guy called Noah making a run to Home Depot I doubt any North American rainstorm would cause any problems.

Seems to me that if Lil Buddy is left out in the rain for a prolonged amount of time on a routine basis there could be grounds to classify it as "Scooter Abuse".

I though the answer was why blue isn't green.... But I see your point on red being red. I think it has more to do with rainbows being "n" shaped and not "u" shaped. Seriously, rain won't do any real damage as long as you maintain your scoot. Even a garaged scoot with no maintainence will have issues.
