This is great. There was a similar petition for Los Angeles at one point, but it was abandoned.
To make something like this work, though, petitioners need to have at least a little political savvy. This is one of the reasons this didn't work out in LA—no one really knew what to do with it. If I had the time, I'd start something up myself, but I can't commit to a project like that right now. (Believe it or not, my checkered career path has included a few stints doing political consulting and organizing.) But if anyone wants to start something like this in their area, I'd be glad to share some ideas.
