Modern Buddy

I would never know a thing about Genuine if it wasn't for the internet.
The same goes for a lot of companies, its true. I knew about Vespa of course, and Cushman, but a buddy? . . .

Where did you first read of the Buddy on the Internet?

Genuine does some marketing and advertising, but it's usually in places targeted towards existing scooterists (e.g., Scoot! magazine).

Its greatest sales tool is the product itself. People want to know about it when they see it, whether on the streets or on front of a dealer. The more that are out there, it seems, the more they sell. (Yeah, gas prices has something to do with that, too, but...)

You know, I am not sure. Right now the furthest back I can tell is from POC But for the life of me I don't know how I found him. I have yet to find a scooter magazine on the racks of Borders or the other Mega book stores shelves. I bet this is going to change, as the barrel is just so darn heavy.

I was looking at a Vino 125, but didn't really care for the looks of them. I did a search for Vino 125 that brought up different sites.

On a couple of the sites the Buddy was discussed, so I did another search for Buddy 125 and found ModernBuddy.com and ScooterDiva.com.

After reading on both forums I decided to find where I could look at a Buddy in my area. An hour away--twice as far as the Vino 125 dealer--but once I arrived they offered more assitance and information than the Yamaha dealer. The Yamaha dealer ..I had to go specifically ask for a sales person each time. Didn't think twice after finding the Buddy dealer, I bought a Buddy...NO regrets either.

The first time I heard of the Buddy was on a podcast.

Just Gotta Scoot with David Harrington. He did a Buddy/Vino comparison on his site (same name, just run all the words together justgottascoot.com)

And then I heard more on the ScooterCast with Dave Mangano. That's SCTRCST.com.

The first I heard of Genuine was the Stella, then I when I was narrowing my shopping quest down I was looking at a vino and found the comparison on justgottascoot.com with the Buddy/Vino and then hit up the Genuine site and had to have a Buddy.

Then I found this site when I was trying to find real people's views of the Buddy.

The first time that I had heard of My Buddy was back in the mid-late 80's. I learned much about how he wanted to go wherever I did and he had a Kid Sister too.

Now, who would have thought that he would grow up to make a great line of scooters and still go wherever I go! Amazing!

Back then I dreamed of owning a px150 or p200 from vespa, but because used bikes are used, I saw the stella as my alternative. It was 100% the same bike, but just a different brand. After a while of just saving money and not really looking at the bike anymore, I decided to look back at genuine's website where I found the buddy and the blur. Ended up loving both bikes, and now own a buddy

But without the internet, I probably wouldnt be scooter crazy. No way to do some instant research and info gathering without the internet! Much easier than back then when you'd have to read newspaper auto section and look in old barn sales for a scooter.

I knew of Scooterworks BEFORE I knew of Genuine and Buddy. I knew someone back in the mid-90s, who was a friend of a friend, and he was the manager at Scooterworks for a long time---I think Ken replaced him. And I knew they were Vespa experts.

When it came time to look at scooters, I just went to the Scooterworks website, looked at the scoots they had for sale, drooled over the Stella for a long while, and then saw the Buddy. I just started reading up on the Buddy afterwards, and the rest is herstory.

I googled scooters I remembered looking at their website thinking, I want a buddy so bad, but I wont ever get it. Then when I realized everything else wasnt up to my standards and I actually could afford one I freaked

first time i laid my eyes on a buddy was after i was referred to urban moto by the vespa dealership. on a complete whim i thought it'd be fun to go check out the vespas, and summarily fell in love with the portofino green lx150 - but not the price. even if i had that much money, i don't think i'd spend it on a scooter. i asked about buying maybe a used one, and they told me to go down the street to urban moto, because they sometimes had trade-ins to sell.

and there i saw the buddys. terribly, disgustingly cute. and with the cutest little price tag ever, less than half of that lx150! could it really be that obtaining a scooter was within my reach?? and of course, the guys there were such sweethearts, that it boosted my impending obsession right along. i then researched the living hell out of scooters and all things scooter-related, and my desire for a buddy only worsened. 7 months later, bada bing, ines is safe in her stable. ..sigh.. i loves.

I was looking for a scooter when I spotted this really cool one near the park that I take my dogs. It was a Stella... A Stella? What was that!?

So I went home and looked it up!

Yeah my initial exposure to Genuine was through the Stella. I'd looked at the Vino and figured that's what I'd end up with. Then I found the Stella online and that led me to Genuine. I looked up Scooterville in a local scooter shop search and dropped by. There I read DH's JustGottaScoot comparison of the Buddy to the Vino 125 and saw the Buddy in the flesh. I'd found scooterworks previously as I started looking for older Vespas but didn't make the connection to Genuine until later.

I've also got to give David Harrington a lot of credit too. If it weren't for JustGottaScoot reviews and the podcast, I'd be a much less informed scooterist. I probably would have ended up with a Vino instead of my Blur, and probably wouldn't be wearing half the proper riding gear. Dave's a great resource and it's especially nice to have him local and find him loitering 'round Scooterville all the time. Now that I think about it, I heard about ModernBuddy from him.

LMAO! I just got my Buddy (the scooter) yesterday. Man I'm in love. The funny thing is the my buddy theme song from that commercial has been rolling around my head ever since. I feel like I need to record a version of it just to get it out.

Hey, I wonder in "My Buddy's©" "Kid Sister's©" name is Stella. That would be a trip.
