Funny sound when starting my Buddy. What could it be?

So about every other time I start up my scooter ('07 Buddy 125) it makes a noise like the battery is struggling. I will now attempt to explain that noise through typed text. It's like:

"rrRRrr (wierd pause for about a second) ........ (then normal start) rrrRRrrRRrrRRrrRR-started-and purring-like-a-kitten."

It's like the first turnover is a tough one to get past. I hooked it up to a battery charger and the charge is good. About 200 miles ago I had to have a faulty stator replaced. I wonder if the new one is crapping out.

Like I said, sometimes it starts right up, and other times it pauses after the first turnover. Also, it doesn't seem to make a difference whether the engine is hot or cold.

Any thoughts?

Batteries that can hold a charge, operate accessories, etc. still may not have enough guts to turn the motor over. That would be a good first guess.

Mine does this sometimes, then sometimes it just starts purring right when I touch the ignition. Other times it takes 2-3 seconds of it turning before it finally works.

I seem to get the same tone, once in a great while, mainly if it is cold out. Almost like a medium pitch klaxon (but nowhere near that loud). Seems to be doing it every month or so in the cold weather. Not sure what to tell you, except that it has not hurt anything on mine so far.

and if you kick start it, does it start right up?
