Prima exhaust upgrade - functional or fashionable??

I am the proud owner of a Italia 125. Love it!!!

I'm planning to get a Prima exhaust upgrade tomorrow. Basically, I think that it looks really cool. I've been told it sounds a lot better than the stock pipe. And I've seen some videos on youtube etc. trying to show the difference between the two (but I didn't really notice a huge difference). I've also been told it gives your scoot a bit more power.

Question to those of you with the Prima upgrade: Is the exhaust upgrade basically just for looks (and sound) or can I expect a noticable performance enhancement too?

Thanks,

Applejack

I am getting one also. I have heard both, that is helps a little bit with pickup, and also the other side, where all it does is sound cool… It looks like a win win or a win… either way I would be happy…

The car modifier brain of mine wants to chime in and say that on cars, intake and exhaust are always the 1st 2 things to do because that is ALWAYS where things get bottlenecked. Also, if you plan on doing anything else to it in the future, if someone will eventually make performance parts for these, you will probably need a better flowing exhaust, like the prima, to see any gain out of the other modifications.

I have a little more off the line than a stock Buddy, The look is great and the sound is far superior to stock

In my case, I think the Prima has improved my top end – But; we are talking about 125cc, it is hard to notice changes.
I do like how it looks and sounds – it keeps me company on rides.
For me to categorize the pipe, it’s more of a fashion statement than a functional addition.

I used fingernail polish and put a spot on the handlebar beside the throttle handle. Then without the scooter running I put a dot adjacent the other on the throttle handle for a closed throttle indication. Next I fully opened the throttle and put another dot on the handle for a wide open throttle. Next I put a dot half way in between those 2 dots for a 50% mark. Then I split both sides to give me a small dot @ 25% and 75%. At the same throttle settings while crusing, I have increased my performance, both aceleration and top end.The Prima Pipe inlet area is increased some 40% or so more than stock and the tail end is increased 400% bigger than stock. The tail end of the stock pipe is about 20% smaller than the inlet end - go figure??. At cruse my engine seemed to labor and sound like it had to work hard and had a pinging sound occasionally. Now it just has a nice sound and today I cruised @ 63 MPH on level road with throttle @ 5/8 open. My last fill up was 109 Miles with 1.09 Gallons, and this is with 10% ethanol, which is all we can get here.
