scootering safely into Chicago

Post by redcass »

Wow this forum's active right now! I go away for about a week and whammy!

But back to the point. I want to ride up to north Chicago from home (Bloomington-Normal IL) and the "avoid highways" route from Google suggests a 4 hour ride! Part of the length appears to be taking Kingery Hwy to Brookwood. Is there a quicker (yet safe) way to get to the north side by scooter? Or am I just in for 8 hours of saddle-sitting?

Thanks,
RedCass

Well, not Waukegan, but I'm not sure of the neighborhood. The closest El stop is Addison (Blue Line), so is that Lincoln Park?

I cant think of a better way, isn’t it a 3-4 hour ride in a car doing 70mph?

or you can come in through the south side of the city, ride up archer through china town and then through downtown... if you time it for the right part of the day that could be a really nice ride...

"Chicago, Chicago, that toddling town..."

I miss it.

Old Route 66 (Turns into Ogden once you get near the city) runs right downtown. I know several scooterists have ridden that from here to California on old bikes.

This is actually not that far north--in fact, it's exactly due west of Wrigley Field by about 20 minutes.

Nope, 2 hours if no traffic.
