Modern Buddy

it just occured to me that not only do we have a lot of new faces here, but some of these people are freakin hardcore.....one member, whom i won't name has only been on the board around 100 days and is averaging almost 12 post per day (that's awesome!! i'll be there someday)

almost all the really active people on here now have only been members for like five months, thats nuts.

There's kind of a natural ebb and flow to these forums. In the spring and summer, when there are a lot of new scooterists, membership jumps and the forum is very active. As a lot of the new members get many of their initial questions answered and get some of their initial enthusiasm out of their system, some of them become less active. Some just kind of disappear. Some are so active at first, they just burn out after a while and move on. Some are sort of cyclically active, then fade out for a while, then come back. And some stick with it over the winter months, then come spring it starts all over again.

Of course, with the mad scooter rush this year, I fully expect to keep more active members than in the previous years.

I'm hoping we can do more to retain active members. I really don't get anything out of it (like, you know, money or perks), but I like having a broader, more diverse membership. I also don't want to have the kind of clique-ish oldbie vs. newbie thing I see on a lot of other forums.

I will say, to the credit of everyone here, I am repeatedly told that this is the most accessible and friendly scooter forum. We don't get a lot of that BS and our newer members are really stepping up and doing the kinds of things that will bring people in and keep them around (like the scavanger hunt).

Well, my motto has always been quality, not quantity. You can type a whole bunch and not really say anything, or you can type what ya type and let it be that. I appreciate all those who make a real effort and it seems to be their priority to put out thoughtful, informed, helpful facts and suggestions on the board.
I'm glad people continue to see MB as a viable medium of learning and socializing with other scooter enthusiasts, and hope people continue to find the board useful.

And that's all I have to say about that.

I actually only joined this website to get a heads up on issues with the buddies before people started coming to my shop with them.

I have since quit visiting another notable Genuine forum because the environment here is much better.

Yep, kudos. This place is super helpful, friendly and informative. Oh yeah and hysterical quite often as well. I really like feeling that I'm part of a community too. I started reading here before I bought my Buddy I'm on here more often now that I actually own. I don't plan on leaving anytime soon. Thanks to everyone not only for the helpful responses and ideas, but also for the camaraderie.

Amen to this Logical1. I remember a thread on MV about a year ago that pleaded with people to reconsider posting single word, single line, "+1", etc. posts because of the time it adds to sifting through threads. Yeah, it gets your count of posts up there in a hurry but it also adds an awful lot of "noise".

I'm certainly not advocating stifling anything and MB is still much more manageable than MV, but please look to the future folks. This place is growing fast and it's soon going to be difficult to keep up with all the new threads, especially if half the posts are "+1".

Unless, of course, MB is all you do. Me? I'm just now finishing up lunch...

Come on now . . . Sometimes a picture says a thousand words, sometimes not. Lets not get so uptight that people second-guess themselves. Isn't it about having fun too?

As I see it, one simple solution would be to add a buddy serious talk category and leave the general talk for general goofball jibber jabber.

I'd like to think my opinion will elicit at least one reply of "Word!" from future replies.
