Air Intake

Post by MikieTaps »

So the air intake is on the right, correct? and it has a intake "scoop" type thing that is pointing down, correct? The exhaust is directly under this scoop, correct? Would it be possible to rotate this "intake scoop" forward so it is catching the air that is moving past the bike while in motion? will this help anything on such a small motor? will wrapping the exhaust to insulate some of the heat from entering the exhaust help bring down intake temperature? As I have established before I am coming from the turbo charged 2.0 to 2.5 liter modified car world, where things like intake temperature were very important... should I not worry about these things with these little 1 cylinder 125cc low compression motors? :headache:

The intake is actually on the left side. The cooling fan for the flywheel is on the right.

2.0 and 2.5s huh? Subys?

You bet, my friend had a ridiculous STI that was pushing 375hp at the wheels, with 26+ pounds of boost... it was a fun machine to work on...

back to buddies...
that would explain the sucking of air on that side...
and i supposed that the flywheel wont get terribly hot...

I guess I should make sure I know which left we're talking about.

Left from the front or left from the rear.

The intake doesn't just cool the flywheel, it blows air across the cylinder head.

i am talking about the intake the is by my right foot when I am riding it. If this cools the cylinder head, it might be a good idea to get better air flow through there?

Yes, but due to the aerodynamics of the scooter the best way to get more in there is by removing it. Then it can suck more air in at stop lights.

Problem with that is that more crap can get into it, same with if it were facing forward.

i turned mine a quarter turn so it is facing backwards to make it look more sleek or something, i had to leave out one of the three screws in order to do this.
