New Rider's Choice

Post by PortlandRider »

Hi, I'm a High School student of Portland Oregon (Lincoln High). It is located in the middle of downtown Portland. Me and my father decided to acquire scooters for our transportation needs (we share a car at the moment). We live in a hilly neighborhood and have decided to buy two of these three scooters:
The Buddy 150/125
The Vogue from SYM
The Kymco People 150

Out of these three choices what would be best for a High School student; I need space for my lacrosse bad as well as space for my school bag. Out of these three options which would best fit my needs for transportation in Portland as well as be fun to ride?
Thanks =)
P.S. I look forward to riding around portland in the nice Summer weather!

I say go with the buddy, not just because this is a buddy forum.

From my dealings, genuine is soo much easier to get support from. When you need parts, they can get them too you and they have an after market support, unlike the others.

The Buddy and People are both very good choices. Is the Vogue available yet? I thought it wasn't coming until next year. The other SYM scooters are all quite good from what I've heard so I'd expect that to be a viable option as well, but since I haven't seen or ridden it I can't offer a comparison.

Try sitting on them and getting a feel for which is more comfortable. The People accelerates better than a Buddy 125. The Buddy handles a bit easier.

Otherwise, you've narrowed it down to some very good options and I think you and your father would be happy with either of them.

Vespa Portland has alot of buddies available in 50,125, and 150. I looked at sooooo many scooters. Nothing quite fits in the same class as a buddy to me. At least not for price. Happy scooter hunting.
Vodka tonics are my friend.

I say go with the buddy. Those are all good scooters, however I think the People just looks too much like a moped. Just my personal thoughts. And kudos on living in portland, I am from there, I cant wait till I can get my buddy out there and tear it up.

Thanks for the help. I have one final question. Should I go with the 150 or the old 125?
P.S. The Vogue is not available yet, but it will be around July 15.

Well man, I have a friend with the 150 and I dont notice any difference in ours. However I live in a place with no hills, so the 150 might do you some justice trying to get around the hills around portland. I am partial to my 125 though. Next summer I am working in portland and shipping mine there. Hope that helps a little bit. If your going for cost effective im sure the 125 will do you just fine. They both have the same top speed, your just gonna have a little more high end power and acceleration on the 150.

With the price difference between the 125 and the 150 you can spend it the gear you will need.

The various reports comparing the Buddy 125 and 150 don't really provide much insight, unfortunately. Some say the difference is huge; others say it's negligible. The difference is small enough, I'll say, that a number of other variables can easily reduce it to nothing: a windshield, rider weight, tire inflation, etc. I suspect some 150s run much faster and harder than some 125s, but don't know how universally true it is.
