Modern Buddy

I can get an '03 Stella, wearing red paint with 250 miles on it, some dings from having been dropped.


I could also get an '07 Buddy, also wearing red, 650 miles on it, first service just done, perfect condition, selling with a helmet (that I don't need) included.



Personally, I'd like to have a Stella at the moment, but I think that the Buddy would be easier to sell when it comes time for that, and I definitely miss having a Buddy.



What the crap should I do?!

I would negotiate the price lower on the Buddy to no more than 2200, no helmet. I love Stellas, but they seem to be more finicky maintainence wise

i actually think selling the stella would be easier. i would want to have it checked out for any other problems from a mechanic.

the big question do you want the slightly slower shifter or do you want the quick twist and go type thing

I think assuming that the Stella checked out ok, and the dings weren't too bad (not going to rust, not super ugly, etc) I might go with the Stella just because I've already had (have) a Buddy and so checking out a Stella would be cool.

That's a killer deal on the Stella, I'd definitely pick that one (and paint it). But that's just me...

I agree that the Stella may ultimately be an easier/better resell. Plus it will wear the dings well because everyone will think it's a vintage scoot anyways. Hell, I get people asking me all the time if my LX150 is from the sixties.

Well, it's a matter of what I would prefer vs. the practicality of the situation.

i'd, you should, if i could, you would.

if you aren't planning on racing cages at stoplights (read as wanting fast accelleration) or going long distances out of the city (read as need a few more miles top speed for "highway" travel) i would still go with the stella at those prices.

The deciding factor for me between a Stella and a Buddy came down to two-stroke versus 4-stroke. I can't get my conscious to allow me to ride a 2-stroke now knowing how much worse their emissions are. All MPG aside. I will wait in hopes of a 4-stroke Stella. Until then, buddy it is!

Do you enjoy doing preventative maintenance/adjustments? Is your idea of fun spending time working on your scoot keeping it not just in tip top shape in appearance but also mechanically?

My pop lives in Montgomery, and I asked him to go out and verify the Stella's mechanical condition and whether or not the 247 miles that are on its odometer were legit.


Well, after his 1 mile test ride, I ultimately ended up with a deposit on a 2003 Stella with 248 miles on it.

Congratulations! Now go out and ride the thing.....and enjoy!
