My Buddy just doesn't have that ol' spark anymore. Really!

Post by Elm Creek Smith »

Something in the ignition is toast. I started having problems a few weeks before Quadrophenia, the Tulsa Scooters rally, with difficulty starting and occasionally dying. After the rally, one day it just wouldn't start. I didn't think I was getting spark, but I took the Budd to Tulsa Scooters, and the mechanic on duty confirmed it. Don't know how long it will take them to track down the problem, but it could be the spark plug cap, the spark plug wire, or the CEI(?). I hope it's soon, because we're supposed to have good weather for a while instead of near constant waves of thunderstorms.

Oh, well. My bank account will suffer as I have to drive my truck to work.

ECS...look back on all my posts about the problems I had. The CDI unit was replaced, etc., etc.. One dealer blamed it on my exhaust system and jetted the crap out of it...just making matters worse. I finally traced ALL my problems down to poor quality wires comprising the wiring loom. I replaced most of the wiring between the CDI unit and the coil and on into the wiring loom.

You cannot SEE any breakage in the wires...the metal actually breaks inside the insulation where you can't see it. The only ways to discover if indeed that IS your problem, is to either replace the wires hit and miss (like I did) or have someone who knows how check the continuity in the wires leading both to and from the coil.

This information could save you a pot-load of money.

Thanks, Keys. I knew I couldn't see broken spark plug wires, and I'm not going to do the work myself. My Budd is still under warranty until October, so I'm going to let Tulsa Scooters fix it. They have a great service department, and the mechanics know what they're doing. If they have to replace every wire on the thing it's all right with me.

I just hope nothing happens like this after the warranty runs out.

Picked the Budd up today. Bad stator. I may have helped with a not-to-spec battery that I bought when everyplace else was closed. Everyone loves my new Stebel Magnum horn, though!
