because the interior panels are textured i don't think anyone has been successful making it stick.

You could probably pull off the suction cups and the storage area up front and drill some holes and use screws to attach it

If someone goes this route, my only addition to this would be to ensure that some washers are used as well.

Bigger flat washer against the panel and then lock washers. Spray paint the washers. Better might be nut and bolt with flat washer outside and a locknut inside. Still paint them though.

Or you could use the left hand side of the glovebox which is kinda made for a cup!! Wedge a towel or something behind the cup so it doesn't slip all the way to the back.

Also, ericalm designed a holder that hooks on to the little hook in front of the seat- I think it started as a travel wine bottle holder hooked on to that hook and then he refined it. I saw it on modernvespa but I don't think he's posted it here.

I put coffee in the left side of the cubby all the time. The only problem is I drive fast and if I hit a large bump any opening in the cup sends scalding coffee all over my shoes/pants. I should probably switch to a "commuter" mug with a closing opening.

This is what I use...and this is how it looks inside the glovebasket.

I have had 3 of those cup holders (got them all in one auction on eBay). As with many suction cups, they lose suction over time, which has led to some catastrophic equipment failures.

Mango Jamba Juice all over my floorboard! Ugh.

Plus, as has been noted, hard to stick anywhere on a Buddy.
