Scooting Under the Influence?

Post by krysbrezinski »

So I have a dentist appointment this afternoon, during which I'll be inhaling laughing gas. How safe is it for me to be riding my scooter home after this? I'll definitely be chilling out in their waiting room for a while after the procedure to clear my head; how long would you guys estimate before I'm back up to safe driving capacity? Should I walk around, drink water, etc to speed up the "recovery" process?

I'm stressing out about this a bit; there really isn't any other way for me to get home, so I'm going to have to make it work on the scooter somehow.

Edit: So I'm feeling a bit better after finding this site, which says the effects wear off after 10-15 minutes. Still, I always feel a little off for a while afterwards, so any advice you guys might have is still appreciated.

Well, the thing with nitrous is that while your head will be fairly clear pretty quickly afterwards, you can get sudden little rushes of it for a few hours afterwards. I've even heard of dentists instructing people not to sign legal documents that day. Find a ride or take a cab.

The gas is indeed a factor, but do consider your helmet (assuming you wear one!). When I got my root canal, my entire jaw was sore for a week afterwards. So even if the gas wears off, the pain might be so distracting as to become unsafe. I'd try and find a ride, honestly.

Yeah. The great thing about all that fuel savings? It's much easier to write off a cab ride, or a lunch for the friend who drives you home. =)
