Thanks for getting me started

I started scooting real recently -- borrowed a friend's for a weekend a while ago, then bought one. Started around the block, then around the hood, then over to the next neighborhood. Then farther out. I'm pretty comfortable on the Buddy I picked up this week now.

But reading here has made me realize how new I am at this. Thanks to the depth of knowledge here, I am now nervous and alert when I'm on the road, which I'm realizing is the way to be -- aware of the road surface, aware of people, cars, obstacles all around.

Thanks to y'all I am wearing a FF helmet, and got an armored mesh jacket and gloves. And I'll probably take the MSF course in Sept. when I have more time and get a license, which isn't required here for a 50cc.

I commuted to work a few days this week, and I want to continue. I've got a route that's half city traffic (where I really am going the speed of traffic,). The other half covers some suburban roads with mostly 30 mph speed limits, where I seem to be able to exceed the limit by enough to keep people off my butt... There are 1/2 mile or so stretches in two spots where I may have to pull aside and let a few cars go by.

I appreciate the depth of information here, and should be around for a while, soaking new stuff in. Thanks, y'all.

I'll second that thanks. I'd have to say I'm very well prepared for my impending scooter ownership thanks to you all.

That's really cool to hear. I had the same experience. I was planning on just a helmet (who knows what kind) and maybe gloves until I read up here.

I'd have to say it was guys like illnoise and ericalm whose posts really enlightened me, but clearly now it's MikieTaps.

Go on and high five yourself, Mikie!!!

plus, it's summertime, you get bored some days, why not, right? twice i think is okay, although im sure you'll get pretty sleepy. just you know, keep it to a minimum, i've heard high fiving yourself too many times in a day can make you go blind.

well, its mostly at work where i do it... right at my desk. Whenever I finish a big project, I high five myself... i used to pat myself on the back, but that was awkward. I still get wierd looks from my co-workers, my high fiving can be loud sometimes.

If what we do here just helps ONE person, just makes a difference in ONE person's life…

…then that's a pretty shitty ratio of posts-to-change...

Just kidding. Good to hear some of our nagging is sinking through to someone. : ) We nag because we love.
