made a Buddy Spec Commercial

Hey all,

my girlfriend Stacie and I decided that it might be fun to make a spec commercial for the Buddy Scooter, just for fun and practice. I absolutely love riding, so making the spot was a total blast. Our friend Tyler has a camera mount for his car, so we threw the camera on there and had them drive around while I followed on the Buddy.

I put a Quicktime movie of the spot online. Check it out and let me know what you think! :)

Here's a primary link and a mirror link if the first one isn't loading:

That is great. Nice work, I could see that being on TV or the web as an advertisement. You'll have to add some comments about Genuine not endorsing the look mom no hands move and sell it to them.

Is there a downloadable version? I need to send that around.

Yeah, you can download the spot with no problem. On the far right of the play bar there's a down-arrow that you can click to get a menu of options. One of them is "Save as Quicktime Movie." That should do it!

I'm really glad people like the spot; we had a ton of fun putting it together!

And Genuine DEFINITELY does NOT endorse the "no-hands" manuver! ;-)

I don't have the PRO version so I won't let save as. :(

You can click on this link to download the movie file. On Mac you can control-click the link and choose "download linked file", and on Windows you can right-click the link and "Save Target As." :)

Nice. From someone who works in film and video production: If you found an interested agency, I think you could totally sell that.

Unfortunately, rights for the songs would necessitate either a lot of money or use of different music.

Great job! Sound work was very impressive... got your own foley artist?

Also, looks like you ride a lot of the same areas we do ("downtown" Burbank). Maybe see you out sometime

Hm, is that a VESPA helmet you're wearing there? ;)

by SirLexelot
Yeah, we live in Burbank, and it's a super-awesome town to ride scooters in. Especially the Buddy! We should go on a ride some time -- one of my favorite nearby scoots is going through Griffith Park.

And yeah, that's a Vespa helmet ;) I got a great deal on it a while back from Motorsport in San Deigo. But I have a full-face Shoei on order!

Thanks for noticing the sound, by the way :) I'm a mixer (independent right now, and working towards it professionally), and did all the sound work in Pro Tools. I actually recorded all the foley myself right in my little mix room! I think it came out pretty well.

Also, for the person who asked about getting my avatar icon on a sticker: I wasn't able to find a sticker thru Cafe Press that was round, but I did find pin-on buttons and magnets! So I made those available. Here's the store's link:

http://www.cafepress.com/scooterific

Just go under the "Buddy Dot Mod" section and you'll find them.

And you know, maybe we should pitch this to Genuine. We just made it for fun, but who knows? They might like it and have a use for it. Maybe I should email them a link ;)

Maybe Genuine could just post to their site and do a "trade" for some acessories or something. Though the no-handed riding could give them some legal headaches!

We live in NoHo; I usually commute through Burbank (Riverside>Olive>Barham>Cahuenga) almost every day on my Vespa. Then the Buddy and the Vespa are both out on weekends with trips to the Library on Buena Vista, House of Secrets on Olive, downtown and to Pasadena via San Fernando. Would love to ride but right now cannot due to an injury and a crashed (soon to be replaced!) Buddy.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the Buddy & injury! Here's hoping you and your Buddy heal up quick. Let me know when you're back on the mean streets!

With respect to Genuine and the spot, yeah, a trade would certainly be pretty sweet. But I'd just be happy if they used it somewhere!

And the "no-hands" shot is so bad, I know! We could easily swap it out for another fun riding shot. And in my defense, I was only going about 15mph and had a safety car in front of me  Still I know it was a bad idea. Don't do this at home, kids! :D

great job!

BTW, all of you valley dwellers should come out for our friday night rides!
www.reflectionssociety.com
we meet every friday night @ 8:00ish @ Tamarind & Franklin (in Hollywood near Beachwood) We decide a destination (bar, coffee shop, club, concert, party, etc) and make up a fun route to get there. I used to ride a 50, so we don't go too fast...it's a lot of fun.

My Quicktime is updated, but when I tried to play it the message was that Quicktime needed a program or file to run it that was not on the Quicktime server. :?

I know, I know! Every couple months I have to work late on a Friday and then take discs to a printer in Glendale. This takes me down Franklin & Los Feliz and I inevitably see Reflections out riding... I get a jealous pang and promise to myself to come out one of these days. I've even had Relfections cards left on my scoot twice now. So, as soon as I heal up and am ready to go I'll be coming out.

Great job, I loved it.

How did you rev the throttle without moving the bike, holding the rear brake in?

Great video, you should definitely pitch this to genuine. I thought it really was an ad for the buddy before I saw this post. It goes along perfectly with the sacharine sweet cheerfulness of genuine's site.

Oh and I'm definitely in for tonight's ride. Guess I gotta put on my mod mirrors.
