Tune-ups?

I've had my Buddy 50 for about 16 months, and I have about 1250 miles on it. I did the regular maintanence at 600 miles, but that was about a year ago. Do I need to take it in to the dealer every so often to have them do a tune-up/fluid check? Or can I do most of those things myself? I've kind of convinced myself i need to change out the gear oil, but that seems totally doable at home. Would love your feedback.

When you say "you did" do you mean the dealer did it? The dealer should do the first service to check the valves and other stuff that's tough to do at home.

It's fairly easy to do oil changes at home, there are detailed instructions in the tech section of this site:

I don't know what that says about time vs. mileage, but if you're not putting enough miles on your bike to do an oil change every several months, I'd go ahead and change it at least annually.

oh yeah, I definitely had the dealer do the first maintenance. and i've added oil as needed. just not sure if i should be doing an "annual" with the dealer, besides the regular intervals listed in the manual (which i actually dont find very helpful)

not helpful as in confusing? They're pretty clear, whether you agree with the mileages or not.

I'd say if you're not riding enough to hit a maintenance milestone at least once a year, it'd be a good idea to have it serviced once a year regardless of mileage.

If you're doing the regular maintenance yourself, you should bring the scooter in to your dealer roughly every 4,000 miles or so or at least once a year.

7,000 mile service....

I just rolled 7k miles on my blackjack. I hadn't been riding it much in the past year (commute was too long and cold), but now that I've moved to Bend, the weather has been too good not to regularly commute on my scooter again.

I am taking it in for a service since it hasn't been serviced in 1300 mi or over a year.... there's not a genuine dealer, so I'm taking to the local honda/suzuki/etc shop.

What all should I go ahead and get replaced/serviced? I am ordering the parts to take to the dealer so want to make sure I'm not missing anything. I was planning on getting oil/gear oil change, new tires (upgrade to S1's- rear is worn out again), new sliders and kevlar belt. And have them take a general look over the bike.

Anything else I should do for good measure?

HOLY THREAD REVIVAL BATMAN!

I suppose the only thing else to check/replace would be the air filter and/or spark plug.

Yeah "back in the day" that was a tune up. Just the 'ol plug and a couple filters, maybe.

This is no longer "the day," apparently.

Seems like it will get a good CVT service. And all the rest you mention. That and the "general look over" to see what else might need attention should be ok imo. So long as you aren't having issues with the bike.
