50cc performance upgrades

Post by awr913 »

I am looking at adding a performance pipe and air filter to my 50cc buddy. Just wondering if anyone here has done this and how much of a performance upgrade to expect.

Welcome to the forum!!!!! :D

I dont have a 50cc... otherwise I would be able to help you...

I highly recommend making performace upgrades! Especially on a 50cc.

A couple questions that will help people answer...

Have you had it DE restricted?

well... i guess that is only one question... hmmmm...

It is no longer restricted to 35. It has the smallest pipe I have ever seen on a two stroke so I know there is some power to be gained there.

I have not done much yet to my 50 as far as performance upgrades but I will say what I have done seems to have helped. Added a windshield and swithced the gear oil to synthetic. Will be changing the 2 stroke oil to synthectic shortly. I know others have added the pipe, air filter, performance spring, sliders......and have gotten some noticable results. Good luck on the upgrades and keep us posted as to what you do.

yeah i recommend playing with the rollers/sliders a little bit to find a better combination for your weight and driving habits. I went toooo low with 9.5g rollers... I plan on installing the GY6 Dr Pulley Variator which has a more aggresive ramp along with some 10 or 10.5 g Sliders. It should work out better than my 9.5g rollers on the stock variator.

Get a Prima pipe, some lighter rollers and some jetting and have fun. The air filter can cause more problems than help

awr913.....check out this post and look for the pink buddy. I think it has the biggest balls of all the Buddy 50's.

I have read others say the same about the air filter. What problems can it cause? Don't you need more air coming in for the Prima pipe to work at its best?

AH HA!
I beg to differ!
My fully kitted Buddy "50" is more than likely the fastest IN THE WORLD!!!!!

It has ....70cc Head, Malossi Variator, Prima pipe, 19mm malossi Carb.

It does 55 EASILY and gets there Crazy Fast!
I've not done anything with the Air filter, but might.
I'm looking at the Dr. pulley sliders...probably the 5g's.

That being said....be careful kitting out your scoot's. let's just say that it puts more strain on things like the Crankshaft. FYI there is NOT a performance crankshaft for the Buddy.

Have fun!

Do GY6 performance parts fit the 2007 Buddy 50?

Post by mpc0nsumer »

I'm looking into getting a performance variator, and from what I can tell, parts that fit GY6 engines will work in Buddy 50s; but can someone confirm this?

I'm looking at the Dr. Pulley variator found here:
http://www.scootertronics.com/drpuva1.html

or the NCY variator found here:
http://www.scootertronics.com/ncyvariator.html

Others who have posted here say the Malosi variator kit is also good; but I'm not sure where to find one.
