Modern Buddy

Just curious, if anyone knows of anyone that has made an occupation out of scootering, like being a scooter messenger or scooter taxi? Obviously, you would be scooter taxi'ing one at a time, but you never know.

Insurance has really killed those lines of work for the most part. I belive there is a Sushi shop in Mobile, AL that uses a Vepsa P w/ sidecar for takeout.

Larger cities i still think the bike messanger will win since they can cut across sidewalks and not worry about parking.

I use to have a cushman truckster (3wheel) for picking up scooter parts and dropping scooters off, but realized even though it looked ubber cool a pickup was better suited for the job.

My local Pizza place uses this for deliveries. They also have matching graphics on Honda Element.

NYPD uses Piaggio BV200 and so does the New Orleans PD.
But the NYPD is diff not new to scooters they have used Lambretta, Cushman, and Yamaha over the yrs. (In fact I use to own a NYPD Cushman Truckster)

If your in the Chicago area and stop into Scooterworks you can talk to Pat talk to him about his yrs working on the NYPD lambretta's and his old scooter/motorcycle racing days

The BV200 sure looks like a nice scooter from the specs, but the price is out of my range. That's why I skipped the Vespa/Piaggio lines in the first place.

I am happy with the Buddy decision but I could see myself wanting something with a little more oomf for highway or long distance riding someday.

Sort of back on topic... I looked at the TGB Laser R9 before settling on the Buddy, and there is a version of it for delivery business type use:

Since I do some computer repair work on the side, I considered that something along those lines might be practical. I can't exactly pick up and deliver computer repairs on the Buddy. I don't do enough business right now to justify the vehicle but I have daydreamed that I could ramp up the business, get some custom logo work on a scooter like that, etc.

Maybe... http://eddysvista.com may show a photo of me on a scooter like that some day. For now it's a side business I never put enough effort into really getting off the ground. Proceeds this year have defrayed the cost of my new scooter and accessories so far though.
