karma rides a buddy

Post by toga28 »

So I was driving home from work today, and I pull up next to a guy at a light who is riding a crotch rocket. Now, I've had less-than-stellar interactions with other sport bike riders, and find that they are typically less friendly (i.e. eager to wave, say hi, even acknowledge me) than those on crusiers. But, since I was RIGHT NEXT TO HIM at the light, I thought he'd at least give me a head nod.

Of course not. Upon the light turning green, he gives it the gas and promptly pulls a wheelie for about 100 feet or so. (I'll admit, it was impressive.) I, of course, have nothing to prove (and yet, at the same time, everything to prove...) and hop on my B125 like usual.

One mile later, at the next light, he is again stopped at the front of the line, and I again pull up next to him. (Tortoise and the Hare, anyone?) Again, no wave, no nod, not even a look in my direction. Again, he takes off like a bat out of crotch rocket hell.

But this time a minivan pulls out into his lane (he was already pulling out when our light changed, and an appropriate distance away if the biker was going an appropriate speed, which he was totally not). The biker had room to react, goes around the van (whilest giving it the bird), and then took off again. And I kept thinking "Watch out, buddy, riding cockly like that is bound to get you killed." I'm glad he didn't die by smashing into the back end of a Ford Windstar, but I did get a certain amount of pleasure in seeing him freak out b/c of his own carelessness. I was content to do my 65mph the whole way home.
