Modern Buddy

Okay, I'm seeing something strange going on with my scooter seat... so I noticed after the first night that the seat was wet. So the next evening, I put a trash bag over the seat as a "cover" for the time being. The next morning, both the outside of the trash bag and the seat inside the bag were wet. I put the bag on again this evening, and I just went out and same problem...again! Is this something to do with San Francisco weather? It didn't rain. Will the same problem happen if I get a cover? I'm so confused!

Sounds like simple condensation, to me. Are your nights chilly? I live in California, and I have had ice on my car pretty much every morning it hasn't been raining, for the last few weeks. Don't forget, you live near the ocean!

Is there anything you can do about condensation? Same problem would happen even if I had a real scooter cover then...right? Thanks! I know the question is pretty silly, hehe.

Personally, I can't think of anything off hand. I've never used a cover on any vehicle I've owned. Oh, one thing... is your scoot kept outside, or in a garage? A heated garage would take care of the problem. And, now that I think about it, with a cover, you could look into puting some kind of dessicant material under the cover. Best thing would be to see what others here say, maybe try a web search on "dehumidifiers". That's what you're looking for, and I have heard of such things being used on vehicles put into long term storage... old collector cars and motorcycles, stored in sealed environments. What you could call a "Car Bag". For now, just keep a towel handy.

Anybody else here have any input?

Meh, I have the same condensation problem every night when I get off of work. My seat is absolutely soaked and the pants I wear are no fun wet. Luckily I'm a waiter and have a nifty little water resistant apron I can tie under the seat and slide over it to keep my bum dry. I tried just wiping it off, but the seats are really friendly to that sort of treatment. My suggestion would be not to worry about fixing the problem, just find something you can keep with you to put over it when it is wet and take off so that it also doesn't get wet.

Same problem here, as I leave for work in the pre-dawn hours...I just keep a towel under the seat. One design flaw (of at least the cream Buddy) that I noticed right away is the material they made the seat cover out of. It's waffled, and holds onto water really well...what ever happened to smooth leather (or something leather-like), so we can just wipe it off and go?
I'm actually thinking of re-doing the seat entirely (different cover and foam), as I find the sliding forward thing annoying as well!

Well...I guess I'm glad to hear it's not just me!

If anyone finds some cool solution besides trying to sop it up in the morning, let us know!

Where do you keep your Buddy overnight? Are you getting any condensation on your mirrors or elsewhere?

I ask because if your engine is warm and you leave the Buddy out, the heat rising up into the underseat compartment could cause excess condensation. If it's possible for you to leave the seat up while the engine cools, this may help.

ericalm... hmmm, hadn't thought of that. Warm engine, cool air, seat inbetween. Kinda like a little stormfront trying to rain on your bum-cushion. Leaving the seat up might indeed help... just don't forget to put it back down before you ride, lily...

Nope, wouldn't want to fall in!
