Cincinnati snow

We had about 6 inches of snowfall today. After my neighbor and I shoveled the sidewalk in front of several of our neighbor's houses, thought I'd see how the buddy rode. Not too bad...on the sidewalk. Out in the street was a whole different picture. No traction at all. Don't think I'll be riding anytime soon.

I had a a killer day here in Cincinnati as well. I got the email to go home early around 2 today. Not bad when you wok for a newspaper. The Vulcans got together and abused rental cars in a huge empty parking lot. I had the Xterra and Noah had a Ford somethin.

Then Seth stopped by around 10 tonight with his Buddy so, of course we had to ride up and down the street and do donuts. Riding in the snow was not bad and I was impressed with the Buddy.

Saw people riding scooters here in Munich yesterday in the snow and rain. Lots of bicycles too, even in 36F weather.

Dudes! I just wanted to get home last night!! Once we did, we didn't have time to dig out the Buddys. I am way too envious.

Steve, I was hoping to see a short video of you actually riding in the street. Glad you shot the safe ride instead.

Dave, are you planning on the Mardi Gras ride in Covington?

I left work, picked up Violet from school (in Clifton) and we were at the C&D Cafe in about 20 minutes. Total time from downtown to northside 40 minutes including picking up my daughter. My wife had an almost 3 hour drive from Children's Hospital. Now when Violet tells her friends that her daddy picked her up from school early and took her to a bar........

Mardi Gras? When have you ever known me not to ride? I am just waiting on more details.

Buddy has been pretty sketchy with the details but we want to ride. We'll have to wait and see.

Clifton really was a mess.

That's why we chilled out and sucked up the overtime. Ben's collecting as much comp time as possible so we can hit a bunch of Rallies this year.

Glad you guys had a chance to play yesterday!

Video of me riding in the street would only have shown me standing still holding my buddy and then pushing it back to the sidewalk. Absolutely no traction. But it was fun to try. Glad you and Ben made it home safe - late, but safe.

If it snows again I may try putting on my skis and using them as outriggers as I attempt another snow ride. Has anyone else tried this?

Dave, sounds like you guys had fun last night. Donuts without laying it down? Nice!

Seth & I did something like that. He held on to the back of the Buddy as I went down the street. Kinda like skiing.

We used to do that holding onto car bumpers when I lived in Washington. The slicker the soles on your shoes the better.

Any chance we could haul in some snow for WKRP and create some new "rides?"

Hey SteMer,

Nicely done! Glad to see you so well bundled ... that would be the only way to get me on a scooter at these temperatures! My Blur is not happy with my current schedule of running her ever week for about 15 minutes at idle to simply keep the battery & fluids alive, but I'm not sure I could even get it out from the garage in my back yard (through the snow) to ride if I wanted to...

Blur - Warmer scooting weather by the end of the week. It's supposed to hit 50 degrees on Thursday. Snow should be mostly melted by then. It's time to get back on the scoot for real.

I was out riding Friday night through downtown Cincinnati. I was taking the company scooter to a restaurant grand opening and back (Sullys - The old Redfish). I guess it was cold, the Guiness compensated.

Wow, that far? That has to be what, 3 blocks from the office?

Still, it's a lot more than I've ridden lately. Looks like the weather may be coming back over to the scooter side this week so I'm hoping to ride again very soon.

Wow, somebody could win the scooter just in time for WKRP. Will they be getting another one to replace it, or will you be forced to ride your own scooter on official company business?

What kind of restaurant is Sully's? I was a little bummed to see Redfish go.
I think I would have had to drink quite a bit of Guiness to have been out riding anytime in the last 5 weeks. Looking forward to riding in a couple days though!

Ok, so it is actually 1.5 blocks from the office. But, we did go out for dinner @ Universal Grille afterwards and that is another 2 blocks away. So all told it was maybe 5 blocks without a helmet in maybe 15 degree weather.

Sullys is an Irish Sports bar. Lots of TV's.

We should be getting another scooter. It will be a Buddy if we do get another as our current one came from Metro. I am still working out the details.

C'mon, it's great scooting weather in Cincy. Sure it's a little windy today, but it should be at my back on the way home.

Yesterday though... I don't do torrential rain and thunderstorms unless I get caught unawares.

I left work a few minutes early when I heard the wind was more like 33mph than the 23 predicted earlier. I wanted to be home before too much traffic got out there.

The ride was mostly uneventful, but I really had to pay attention. It was particularly interesting heading towards the west side on 8th street going across the bridge. I had to crouch low to present a lower surface exposed to the wind. Once I got back among buildings and trees again it was calmer. I did get a little nervous when leaning for turns, not really sure if the wind was going to gust and push me down further into the ground or up and leave me going wide.

I was glad it was windy when I took the MSF, because we talked about it some. I know I can do it, but over all it probably would have been smarter to leave the scooter at home yesterday.

btw, the wind was not at my back on the way home. Mostly gusty cross winds. Weather report this morning said he we had winds gusting to over 50mph yesterday. I don't think it was quite that bad when I rode home.

Lobster - you are a diehard. I'm with Ajax and Bonegirl. I think I'll wait until a few days from now when it's sunny and 50+. Too rainy and windy for me to ride this past couple of weeks.

I rode the CityBeat scooter to Metro then to Autobahn Craftwerks that day. I have been riding scooters for 20+ years and have ridden in almost every condition including hail.

Riding that Lowboy 150 down Mitchell & Spring Grove was one of the more nerve racking rides I have taken. When I parked, I could not get off the scooter as it kept wanting to blow over.
