MB Amerivespa Roll Call!

Hey, all, I know a lot of us will be going to Amerivespa in a couple weeks, so I wanted us to be able to recognize each other and maybe plan an unofficial MBer gathering if time permits. We sort of gravitate together anyways!
If you want, post a pic so we know what you look like! I also put my MB/MV username on my Amerivespa badge.
I'll be up there sometime Thursday!

I will be coming Saturday morning for the day. I haven't decided yet if I am spending the night. I probably will since it is a 3 hour ride.

My son owns a home about five minutes out of town so he gets to put up with me for three nights......payback is a beach! yuk yuk yuk.
I will be riding up Thursday morning to register....see who I can meet, whatever.

Me me me.
Look for me at the PistonPorted/2strokebuzz/FactoryTools booth (I'm closing Scootmoto.com, so I'll be trying to unload all remaining merchandise)
I'm riding up Friday morning from Chicago and staying at the Harbor Shores, and Eric, PM me with your plans…

I'll have my forest green metallic '71 Vespa Primavera and my orange Blur, my friend Alfredo and I will be tag-teaming bikes for alternating comfort/vintage cred.

Trying to make last minute arrangements to get there…
What are the chances of still finding a place to stay? Most likely bringing my wife along.
Will probably truck Argyle in for the festivities. Its about a 4 hour drive for us.
Fri-sat, or even fri-sat-sun.

I will have a few MB patches at the 2strokebuzz/scootmoto/factorytools/pistonported mersh table. I only have 5 or so, I think. First come, first served. :)
EDIT: I have a whopping TWO left. So I won't put 'em on display, I'll hold one for BuddyBliss and one for the first person to find me a cherry Coke Slurpee.

Well, I've had a change of plans. I was going to ride down Saturday morning and head home Saturday evening. I decided that wasn't enough time so I got a room in Burlington for Friday and Saturday nights and registered for the event. Now all that is left is to get next Friday off of work.
I can't wait to see you all there!

I met Jim and Kate from New York today at the Scooterworks open house breakfast prior to the Chicago Mods and Rockers event.
It was nice to meet you both.....I am impressed with your long range ride...very devoted riders you are.
Maybe we'll meet again at Amerivespa.
Stay safe,
Rob

If I can go I would only be able to go Thurs-Fri since I work on the weekends, is it worth going and paying $65 registration cost to only go for two days and not participate in the parade of scooters or have the banquet?

I am planning on just coming for just Saturday (as of right now - but that might change - thinking about coming up on Friday)
Weather looks pretty good right now... 86 & only a 30% chance of scattered rain.
See you MBers there
(Yes, I will probably be in my sunglasses & "Wall Drug" hat so this pic will be helpful)

SO, anything fun to do in this city for a few days?

I dont know what you are into but here are my suggestions
The Art Institute is a must visit (& air conditioned - its going to be hot today & tomorrow)
http://youtu.be/ubpRcZNJAnE
Millenium park is great for people watching
The Lakefront museum campus is a cool place to walk around even if you dont go into a museum (but I love the Field Museum)
Since you are from LA & the tallest building there is a tiny 1,000 feet, you might get a kick out of the Sky deck at the Willis Tower (1,400 feet) & again.... air conditioned.
Navy Pier is fun for people watching, having a cold beverage & hanging out
For tonight...
Second City is always a good time if you like improv comedy
The Cubs are playing the Sox on the south side.... doubt you can get tickets to that, but Wrigleyville (home of the Cub's Wrigley Field) should have some packed bars with people watching the game.

You wouldn't want to be in the Sears tower when an earthquake hit!
I'm at the Art Institute now. It's overwhelming.
Hot today!

Yeah... its a scorcher - same tomorrow
Glad you like the Art Institute. Its one of my favorite things about living in the Chicago area.
We dont have earth quakes! Just Tornadoes, but they dont make it into the city.
Have fun

DO you have to register in order to participate in the rides and whatnot? I would only be able to go Thurs & Fri so I would be missing all the stuff I'm paying for...like the banquet.

Yes, you do have to register to ride and attend the other events. Thursday includes a lunch, appetizers and food at night. Friday night is the Genuine party. You will also get a rally bag with shirt, patch and a bunch of other stuff.
I can't really say if $60 is worth it for you, but
I'd pay it for the two days. It costs a whole hell of a lot to put on an event like this so some of getting "your money's worth" is paying for all the resources required to run and host the event. You're also getting access to all the activities, etc. I don't know about you, but I can easily blow $60 on 2 days' worth of entertainment and activities and not get as much out of it as I would at Amerivespa.

I used to live in a city where tornadoes didn't come into the city. Until one did and hit a skyscraper.
Resting my dogs then heading over to Hancock tower, which some have told me has a better view and is cheaper than Sears Willis.

It's true, at the Willis tower you have to pay to get in but at Hancock you only have to buy a drink, and considering for ~$8-10 you can get a decent drink in an air conditioned building with a nice view...it's better than the Willis tower!
And idk if the wife will think the same about spending $60 on two days but you sold me!

The Hancock skydeck is nice - it has a cool "open air" area that is screened in - its cool to be "outside" that high up.
But.... the Willis / Sears has all glass "cubes" that stick out 4 feet from the side of the building so you can step "out" & look down.
Both are good choices.
Is this your first trip to Chicago?
Did you get your pic taken staring at the Seurat painting like Cameron & Stewie?

This is my first "real" trip to Chicago, as in not just passing through.
I didn't do the Ferris Bueller photo in front of Sunday at the Grande Jatte, but I could spend a day taking pictures of people taking pictures of the painting and doing the Bueller shot.

the "Cameron Photo" at the Art Institute is the Chicago equivalent of getting your photo taken with a Buckingham Palace guard, posing like you are holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Abbey Road crosswalk shot, posing with your arms up next to the Rocky statue in Philly, etc
Photos of people taking the "Cameron Photo" would make a funny website - I should get on that.

By the way... if you go to the old Chicago Water tower on Michigan Ave, that is built from Lemont Limestone (from my town)
Fun Fact - the Chicago Water Tower was the inspiration for the design of the White Castle restaurants.
Fun Fact #2 - the Art Institute building was built for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition (but it didnt hold art at the fair)

We'll kind of need to figure out where things are and get the lay of the land first. This seems most probable. We'll post anything in THIS THREAD so seek up! I'll also post to the TWO Buddy Facebook groups.
