500 mile break in service - valves checked?

Post by desmolicious »

Anyone had the 500 mile initial service done yet? Stella 4T
The manual sez that the valves should be checked.
But my local shop only quoted $100 for this service. At a shop rate of $75/hr, that does not seem like it would include a valve check/adjust.

Or is it that quick/easy to do?

Are you at 500? I could really feel the break in benefits around 650-1000 or so!

Forgot to ask... were your scoot's valves checked at the 500 mile service?

I have a 'coupon' for the 500 mile service but I'd hate it if all they did was change the oil, when they should have done much more.

I don't think we checked the valves at 500. Greasy did the service, I'll ask him.

Just ask them what is included in the service.

The owner's manual sez the valves should be checked at the 500 mile service.

But it seems that shops skip this, seeing they 'only' charge about $100 for it.

Unfortunately my experience with many places is what they say they do, and what they do, are often unrelated.

I'll see how it goes when I talk to them about it.

I guess it's just me but doesn't anyone ask what they are getting or how much it is going to cost anymore?

There have been several posts lately with, "is this included?"..."How much is it going to cost when I pick it up?"

A good service department should be more than willing to provide a written list as to what is covered in 500 mile, 1,000 mile 10,000 mile service with a base cost.

If you don't trust the service department to do what they say they are going to do...find another dealer!

I agree with this all the way. I use an independent mechanic and my dealer, but am friends with both. My mechanic has never steered me wrong and always gives me a full rundown of what he does. I often just kind of stare and nod until he offers me a beer. Then I sip beer and stare and nod. I do get a written rundown as well, which gets, uh, filed…

Okay, so I'm not the most attentive or diligent. That's why it pays to have solid mechanics I can trust!
