Added a Stella!

Post by Bcon »

So after owning a Buddy since last fall (now fairly well modified), I've added a red 2005 Stella to the stable. I could go on and on about comparison of the Buddy to the Stella, but in the end they compliment each other so they both have an equal place in my garage.

I bought the Stella from a friend who had a good crank and bearings installed right after he bought it. It also had some of the common mods done, such as the air filter swap and a better flowing exhaust.

First order of business for me was removing all the "accessories" (stickers, rack, etc.), I prefer the sleek look of the scoot on it's own. Second order of business was re-jetting. The jetting was way lean, but after a couple jet swaps it was doing much better. However, the idle was high and it was leaking 2T oil all over the place. I traced it down to the common airbox/reed valve gasket problem. I took it apart and the thin paper gaskets were disintegrating.

So now it's apart until I get around to making gaskets and putting it back together.

I'm happy to have it, it's nice to get out on a 2T shifty once in a while!

Having your reed block off is a great chance to swap those stock reeds for some GGR Hotreeds!

Great suggestion! The Hotreeds came today. I plan to seal everything back up tonight and with any luck will be air and oil leak free tomorrow. (fingers crossed)

Congrats on getting the Stella! It's a super fun machine :-) I have an oragne 2005 Stella.

What type of accessories did you take off? Would you consider selling them? If so I'd be interested. let me know.

thanks

The Stella is oil leak free and running great!

The accessories I removed were a glove box tray, a floor mat, and a folding rear rack. The tray and floor mat were pretty trashed, so they got thrown out. I'm going to keep the folding rear rack in case I ever decide to use it, but I don't really like the look (personal preference). I still have the Buddy if I need to carry things.

Got a Blackjack, but did pick up an 09 Stella, and love the differences between them...and know what you mean about keeping the Stella smooth, no racks and such (but do want a rear rack at least)
