I agree with everything except the Con of the foot brake. I really like it, especially when stopped on an incline. Motorcycles have rear foot brake pedals and no one complains about it.

The rear break is the only thing I don't like about my Stella. I have to press down so hard to get the damn thing to stop; if I'm already at a stop then it's fine.

Funny, I can't get my head around a bar mounted rear brake :P If your rear drum isn't easy, it probably just needs a few more miles on it. My P200's rear chomps pretty damn quick, and my '05 Stella had a rear drum that was TOO good: Constantly locked up on me!

It's strange what they'll pick on for a scooter when in comparison to a motorcycle.

My 640-pound Honda has a rear drum. Works fine. The front brakes do most of the stopping anyway.

As well as learning prudent and appropriate application of the Stella rear brake, I've also had to learn how to handle a locked rear brake. :)

I know that at the MSF course they teach that the front brake does 70% of the work, mostly due to weight shifting to the front as you apply the brakes. On the stella however, I think that the rear brake has a lot more stopping power, mostly due to the engine being bolted right to the rear wheel. Right now I can't use my front brake as it does a terrible grinding noise and etches the disk (thinking my pad is worn through, it will be looked at this week); I do not feel that losing the front brake has impacted my braking ability as much as it would have on another vehicle.

Do get that brake fixed asap. If you don't, you will ruin the rotor, making the repair cost that much higher.

As well as making it dangerous to ride.

If you are using your brakes correctly, it has...
