New here..question about 2004 Stella

Post by scoobyjax »

Hi everyone, I'm new here and so glad I found this forum. Friday I will be buying a 2004 Stella that has only 300 miles on it. There's been no service or anything done on it. Basically I was wondering if there can be any issues because of it sitting so much....I mean like the oil going bad or something like that. The owner says he runs around the block every couple of weeks and put stabilizer in the fuel. Thanks!

As long as it runs fine. You should be okay. I would burn through that old gas ASAP, do an oil change on the tranny and ride it. Oh yeah, have a good look at the tires for dry rot. If you see any. New rubber is in order.
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?

Welcome,

That sounds much like, "...a little ol' lady only drove it to church on Sunday's".
Should be fine but, you might want to have someone look it over and tune it -- along with the above items, you might want to check the brake fluid.
If you choose not to decide -- you still have made a choice.

Well, I went to look at the scooter yesterday. I ended up getting the real story and it was better than I thought. The bike was purchased new back on 2004. It was used for less than 100 miles then stored. It was stored until summer of 2011 without being ridden. Last summer it was given as a gift to the man I purchased it from. He spent about 300 having the carb/gas tank/gear oil? serviced. He also replaced the tires. He's put over 200 miles on it since last summer. Basically the bike looked and felt like it was new. Started right up, I drove it around town...put it through the test. It was perfect I had to get it. NOW, he's the best part.....There was 2 of them!!!!!
GOT THEM BOTH. I'm so stoked!!!! I'll probably sell one though....don't really need two. Here are some pics:

What a find! Aint nothing like 2 stroke smoke. I love what you've done..... the red one to ride, the white one as an accent piece in the house. Very cool!

Some of my friends have suggested I keep both. I don't know about that. I imagine that if I kept both I'd probably just ride one and the other would be neglected....plus the added expense of having to register and insure 2 scooters. I would be nice to have a spare scooter so if a friend wants to go for a ride with me than can. I don't know.

I agree. Keeping both seems like overkill. If the scoots are pretty much equal, pick your favorite color. You might want to consider taking the cash from the sale and look at a second ride that is able to safely handle higher speeds for longer distance rides calling for 60 to 70mph speed limits at times. That ended up being a great strategy for me.......two scoots for two different purposes.

I highly recommend keeping both. When all my stuff is running, I rotate. When something's broke, I have another ride.
