Just put a 2T gas cap on my 4T
Props (again!) to scooterwest.com
I called them up yesterday to see if they knew if the gas cap from a Stella 2T would fit on the 4T. They took one of the shelf, walked over to a 4T in their shop and confirmed that it would fit.
Ordered it yesterday, just received it. And it fits!
So now I have a vented 2T cap, I have again plugged the hose coming from the gas tank and we'll see if this works or I get vacuum lock....
Even though I'm working from home today it will still be a while before I can go for a ride!
Fingers crossed..

You're lucky to have Vespa Motorsport as a local shop.

I'm not sure yet. It seems ok, I put about 20 miles on 'er.thatisnotafrog wrote:so, how does this seem to be working? with my bike i would be able to tell on the first fast ride up a hill after a fill-up!
i am wondering whether it is worth it to hector genuine about sending me the one they promised me.
I'll put some more miles on this weekend (bke is in for the 500 mile service) and post back.
There no reason that it should not work as it is a vent issue...
Anyway, if you want to order one, contact scooterwest.com.
$18 and they ship same day (I call it in, not online). I got mine the next day.

Yeah, mine ran fine until I went up a hill...jimmbomb wrote:I was riding with Chino yesterday . We stopped for gas. He has a 09 2t and me 010 4t....
We swapped gas caps and topped off...
20 miles later, we swapped back...
BOTH bikes ran just fine... hhhmmmm no hills though..
p.s. for your test to be valid, after you top it off you need to be using the non-vented/stock cap. Otherwise what do you expect to experience?

I have been testing filling up to about 1/2"-3/4" from the top of the tank and riding up hills, which is hard to find in new york city. No problems in the 8 fill ups until tonight. Of course I am on a two lane bridge to brooklyn where cars go 50-60 miles without anywhere to pull off! I tried starting it but no luck. I push it for about 1/3 mile, almost to the other side of the bridge to a pull off and then it started. After being honked at for the entire time. Thank god I just put a halo band around my helmet this past weekend so was fairly visible.
A question about plugging, which end do I do it? Can some post a photo, thanks!

I'll default to the experts however, my take is that the vented cap lets air into the fuel tank to prevent the dreaded 'vacuum lock' that occurs when the evap system is clogged, therefore negating the evap system altogether. I suppose it then can be removed.Spiffy wrote:can you keep the evap system hooked up? or does the fuel flowing into it create other problems?
My '08 Buddy 150 has no evap system that I know of and venting the cap solved my issues with stalling, simple as that!

Having moved away from the NYC area some 30 years ago, glad you are/were safe, that must have been a harrowing experience....

It can still cause blockages if liquid fuel enters it via the hose.Spiffy wrote:can you keep the evap system hooked up? or does the fuel flowing into it create other problems?
You can still leave all the emissions stuff on it, just save your CA gas cap in the garage, and if you plug the hose as I described, unplugging it and reconnecting takes about 5 seconds if you want to put it back to stock. As well as replacing the vented gas cap with the CA gas cap.
