Choke sticking?

Post by scoobyjax »

Has anyone had any problems with the choke button sticking? When I want to start the bike I have to pull the choke out but lately its been sticking and maybe only coming up half way. Not sure what the issue is, but won't start unless it come up all the way.

grease it... mine is starting to get harder to pull out... I assume it's just because I leave it out in the weather and ride it all the time so I've likely worn the grease off over the last 5500 miles... gonna get to it when it gets dryer out...

easy enough to pull the cowl off and ensure it's not hung up on something though... see if you can manually move it past the point the knob will pull it... then you'll know if it's the sliding mechanism or something else binding it...

I did take off the cowl, but I really can't see the choke cable....almost seems like it's under the gas tank. I'm wondering if I have to remove the gas tank to grease the lever or if there's some other way?

Access to take choke cable out is under gas tank. You can remove the cowl, air box lid, and air filter. Then you can see the choke cable operation. Check there to see if cable is binding or its the carb. The choke cable is a different type of cable than the rest. Its more like a wire.

you need to look on the carb and try moving the "plunger" with your finger. Make sure if it is the cable or the carb itself.

Will do! I'm still not too familiar with what everything is on the engine, but this doesn't seem too difficult. I've been riding it and 50% of the time it comes out if you pull hard enough....but I know it's not suppose to be that difficult

okay, I took off the airbox and the air cleaner. I could see the choke. I pulled the lever and I didn't see the cable move at all, but when I gently helped the little arm on the choke, it moved when I pulled the knob. Basically, if I pulled the knob and pushed the lever on the carb, it would go. It's hare to describe how it felt, but the best I can think of is that if felt like it was frozen. I sprayed some wd40 on the button side and a minute amount on the lever on the carb. I pushed it in and out about 50 times. I really can't say that it got any easier, but it doesn't feel like it snagging on anything. Not sure what to do next.
