Rode the 4 stroke... 2 stroke version any faster?

Hey I am new here but ride a motorcycle and my wife has a buddy 150. I have been riding the buddy around lately and having a great time plus I love the 70+ MPG, my bike only gets 40/50mpg.

So I want to get a scooter for me so I test rode the Stella 4T, it was way too slow compared to the buddy for my tastes. I know it's just a scoot but I hated it compared to the buddy which I like.

So how does the Stella 2T compared to a Buddy 150 Pamplona is terms of speed/acceleration?

The 2T is naturally faster off the line if you put a pipe such as the Sito+, otherwise I'd say they are about matched.

There is no way in hell for a Stella, 2T or not to keep up with the acceleration of a Buddy though. Even a 125 will outperform them due to the CVT vs Manual shifting.

I own a stella and love it, but that being said. Its 1960 all over again with a stella, fun, but like owning an old Alpha Romeo.

If you want a appliance that never breaks and is a blast to ride. The 170I or 220 blur is the ticket IMO.

If I buy another genuine I would go for the 170. Can't beat it for the price.

Keep in mind that whatever you are riding is a test bike and likely not broken in. Scooters will gain significant power and speed once broken in at 1500+ miles.

I own a Stella 2t and my wife has a Buddy. The Stella has several performance upgrades. The Buddy leaves me in the dust every time. I love driving my vintage looking Stella but I did buy a Kymco 250 Dink to give me the freedom of ride long distances and at highway speeds when needed.

I just got a 170i should be the most fun since the wife has the 150. I also have a '62 Lambretta li 125 that I am putting together and going with a 190 kit for it so should have a zippy scoot there.

FWIW, I was riding with a post-2000 Vespa PX150 and a not-running that well P200 last week and the Stella 4T was as fast and did better than the PX on hills and off the line. We weren't racing, but when the PX rider was tucking and straining, I was doing just fine.

I'd have to agree with ericalm. my P200 is obviously faster than my Stella 4T but off the line the 4T is pretty quick...I would by no means call it 'slow'.

The thing with the 2T bikes is that many people monkey with them, thinking they are tuning them and making them better. Most often they are doing the opposite.

After that it ran (and still runs) great.

To be honest though, both the PX and any Stella are slow bikes! Just some are a little less slow than others. If you are hung up on speed, you need to get something 'modern'.
That being said, I ride shifter scoots not for speed, but for fun.

Yes on the modern, see above I just got a 170i and nice name desmo! I also have a Monster 796 when I want to go fast

sub question: if you don't care about the classic look of the stella (enough the the speed difference) AND you do want speed... have you considered the 220i Blur? right out of the box it does more than the stella or the buddy could even with years of upgrades put into them. [with certain small exceptions]

me neither- but its no modern scooter- my wife's 125 buddy beats me off the line everytime and it's cheaper and with less tinkering.
* modern engine with steel frame and lightweight plastic body panels vs "classic" (ie older design) engine with steel frame and heavy, heavy steel body panels.
- don't mean to be mean. but without tinkering, any buddy over 125 cc's is "a little bit quicker" than any stella. (without tinkering)

... of course With my w/s I have a higher top speed than her 125 though.

You can make the 2T stupid fast. But it does take time, money, and a willingness to potentially blow up a motor once in a while.

This is true. I have something like 2000$ in speed upgrades and she does fly pretty good

I do...but I am far from normal...even in the scooter community... and yes...you can make them very fast.

How fast is very fast?
Fast for a scooter?
