broken throttle

So, I rolled my Stella outta the garage, and went to pull it up on it's kickstand - something I've done hundreds of times now. I wasn't paying proper attention, and turned too quick without waiting for the scooter to settle properly on it's stand...
I turn to get my helmet and hear 'crunch!' and spin around, already kicking myself in the ass as I see the scooter laying on it's right side (it was still running). I pick it up, my first thought being, "Holy sh*t! those crash bars really work!!!" the cowl crash bars.....the right brake lever is bent back, but nothing else looks cracked, funky, even the headlight still works.
But the throttle won't turn - it seems to be locked into the closed position. I pulled off the grip and could see that the brass colored handle that connects to the throttle cable has been pushed in about 3/4 of an inch...
I attempted to remove the headpiece, but soon realized that i was now a bit in over my head. But this did along me to peak inside and see that it was in fact, quite pushed in.
It's an absolutely stupid error of carelessness and has me p o'd like a demon.
At myself for not taking one extra second to make sure it was stable on it's stand.
Is this a case of replacing that whole brass colored handlebar piece? or can it be repaired? like a good i tried 'Pulling' it back out, but to no avail.
Any advice or good natured ribbing would be most welcome.

I am such a goof! (and now I'm holding off riding the Blackjack 'cause I 'm pissed at myself and am not in a good focus of mind...and it is blue skies and little fluffy clouds outside....)

Got in touch whith some friends from the club here, who recommended just pulling the damned thing, and pounding it flat so it stays put and then putting it back together.

Got back from the shakedown ride about 30 mins. ago, and feel great. Such a good feeling to fix things you've broken.

don't feel too bad about it falling over. I know I know...it's your baby...but these things happen...actually quite often!

Good on you for getting it back up and running on your own! Now you have an idea of what's going on under the headset and how the throttle works!

Taking the headset off isn't too bad on a Stella. The main trick is to take photos and draw diagrams of the electrical connections and cable runs for reference when putting it back together.

Any parts you take off...bag them and tag them...it's way too easy to forget what bolt or washer goes where!

A little while ago Bocette was in the shop with me. There is a box filled with all different sized zip loks. She asked what was in the box.

"A scooter"
"No really...what's in the box"
"No really...except for the frame my 64 GL is in there"
