Sidecars

Post by Ms.Maria84 »

Hello,
I'm a brand new Stella owner and I've just decided to start looking for a sidecar to fit my 2009 2T. If anyone has any tips or advice on where to look or what to do, buy, ect.. let me know.
Thanks!

Sure. Scooterworks sells a sidecar kit made for the Stella. I have helped mount one. Its a job, but do able in one evening with 2 or 3 friends to help hold things in place ( I bought Pizza).

Takes a little work to set one up, but there are instructions online that help. It rides pretty well, takes about 5-10 MPH out of the Stella, I recommend a good torquey pipe for Stella and a rejet if going for the sidecar.

AND expect a TONNE of attention. I have driven this one around and people LOVE IT!
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?

It is VERY different driving with the sidecar -- turns can be...um...interesting. I'd project more than 5-10 MPH hit from my experience. Hill climbing takes quite a hit -- that may be why I see it more. I don't see too much top-end WOT on flat roadways.

It may be my personal limitations, but I am personally weary of taking roads with 55mph limits (unless they have very little traffic) with the sidecar because it isn't at all doable and is a workout on the arms to keep stable at higher speeds. Around town is great.

Make sure you install the steering damper (even though it is ugly) -- it made a world of difference with my setup.

I have the 4T with the scooterworks rocket sidecar and I'll agree fully on the attention factor. It ratchets up exponentially with a sidecar as if the Stella isn't already cool enough.

Another nice thing is that (after initial installation) if you know where the proper wrenches and sockets are it can come off and on in less than 10 minutes (5 bolts/nuts and a wire) to get you back to 2 wheels and full power.

And the sidecar makes it more stable in snow too -- which is important to a new scooterist up here in New England.
