Buddy horn for my Stella?

Post by vantage »

I was watching a review of a Buddy 125 that came up on the screen when looking at the Video about the Stella with the kit and pipe upgrade.

I was totally jealous that the Buddy had a real horn. Not a little meep meep. Would a Buddy or other horn fit on a Stella?

Going on the model listed in your profile, it might be possible. The horn used to mount to lugs on the horn cast on the old Vespa P's and the 2T Stella's. On the 4T, the lugs are gone from the horn cast and the horn mounts to a bolt-on tab on the steerer tube. Not sure on the dimensions of the Buddy horn, though. I believe it's a Stebel "Bad Boy" horn.

The fit in the horncast is really tight, I doubt you could get a nautilus in there.

I plan to install a high powered horn in my Stella as soon as I have time to fiddle with the electrics (none of it is working when the engine is off right now so I am just running without a battery until I can figure it out). Once I have sorted it I plan to bolt the horn to the frame under the left cowl, I have plenty of space there because I keep my spare wheel on my rear rack.

Found this on the Stebel Nautilus Compact:

Size: 4 1/2" x 4 3/4" x 3 1/2"

Found this on the Wolo Bay Boy:

Size: 4-1/2" x 4-1/2" x 2-1/2"

The horns are nearly identical, but the Wolo (which I think is fitted to the Buddy) is a bit thinner. Lokky is probably correct on this, since the horn and compressor are cast together.

Now I need to see if this can be made to work...

please keep us informed! I'd love to see how it works out.

somewhat unrelated, I'm using an old school p series horncast that is curved rather than blocky, not sure how that'll change my setup, but my horn at the moment is just kinda jangling in the free space.
