New Scoot, New Problem?

Post by brettenet »

So happy to finally have my 2 stroke Stella home. Picked it up on from Craig’s list last night! Thrilled!

But sadly I hit my first issue :( Drove it 40 miles home (was so much fun) and it rode like a champ. Parked it at my favorite Taco joint. Had a bite to eat. 20 mins later, I came out and started her up. Threw her into first and off I went. However as soon as I hit second it kind of lurched like it had no fuel and the scoot slowed and then died. Each time I tried to throttle I would restart and move again hitting the throttle would just stop the scoot and eventually kill it. This happened like 8 times. I could get it to started and moving but soon as I would throttle it would just stop. I took the cap off assuming V-lock. That did not help. Finally I threw it in neutral and revved it for about 3 mins. This seemed to do the trick. My question is, has anyone experienced this and what might it be? I am hoping it was just me simply flooding the engine.

Thoughts?

Sounds like a two stroke that hadn't been ridden for a while. I'd clean the carb. Probably some junk from the bottom of the bowl got sucked up and clogged something.

Thanks Magnato1,

Started up good yesteday and no issues at all. I cleaned the air intake on the gas gap I think I was getting v-locked. Going to clean the air filter and the carb this weekend. This is all new to me but I am excited to learn!
