oil leak

Post by Stilts »

So i come out to my parking spot this evening and see a nice big black puddle under my bike. No oil left in engine. Not.coming from the screw on the bottom, it appears to have its origin on the side of the engine nearest the back wheel. Waiting for tow. Ugh.

Leak from the filter housing?
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Seriously...I've lost count...

Seven mopeds ...that's still manageable...

Well, look at the bright side. At least you noticed it before riding off without any oil. :)

I'm guessing this will lead to the discovery of the noise :(.

Let us know what you find.

Took two hours for the tow to show up, but he made it. Nice guy.

anyways, didn't get a good look as it's too cold outside and i'm already not feeling well, but it definitely looks (or feels, rather) like its coming from the filter housing. brake cable housing is covered in oil as the entire inner wall of my rear tire.

i'll get it transported up to my local sometime this week and hopefully the warranty will take care of it. I guess now i have no excuse to not take the side cowl to the body shop and get fixed back up after my incident in june!

Finally got her up to the shop and the culprit is apparently some pressure cap on the oil filter cover. It simply popped off of its own accord, presumably because of vibration. Thats as good a reason we can figure out, at least. No one is quite sure of the design reason for this particulat cap, either. Regardless, its under warranty and my wholly irrational fear that this was my fault is gone. Should be ready to rumble again next week.

One thing they were amazed at is that im nearing 5k miles on the stock tires. Theyve been roatated just once, front to new spare to rear. He said theyve had tires come back after 1k that are almost bald.

The lady at work who runs the loading dock where we can park motorbikes will be back to shaking her head at me for riding in the cold by the end of next week. :)
