Stock mirror replacements?

Post by DennisD »

I intensely dislike the stock mirrors on my new Stella. :( Doing searches on a couple of different forums hasn't shown too many options. I think I like the leg shield mirror option and have looked at the Scooterworks leg shield mirrors and the real Stadium mirrors. Cost is a factor and I wonder if the Scooterworks mirrors at $39 each are of good quality. If yes the question becomes round or trapezoid?
I ordered a 4" round hot rod mirror from ebay and will see if it works out but still want to know what has worked for others.
I guess the biggest problem for me is looking at the different mirrors apart from the scooter but not being able to picture how it will look on the scooter.
Comments? Suggestions? Any pics? Thanks all.

I'll be looking forward to responses to this as well. I'm especially looking for to any pics people have of their mirrors.

You better watch out! Once I get my P200 finished I will be flying up much more quickly... 8)

By the way, more on topic, my P200 mirrors are basically useless. I have a "plan" though.

Im thinking about just getting some leg shield mirrors...much more sexay!
EDIT: On second thought I might just throw a bar end mirror on the left side.
EDITx2: I see the bar end deal is trickier than I thought lol.
Back to leg shields I suppose

I like the legshield ones a lot. I will probably end up getting one if I can't figure anything else out.

How about a helmet mirror? Leaves the scoot looking clean. Road bikers use them. Kinda small, but could rig up one a little bigger. They work. I had a hard time adjusting to mine and just used bar ends.

holy crap. i forgot about that. i have never ridden a scooter that shifts. i guess i assumed if the other grip had to move then it would use a sleeve like the throttle side. bar ends grip on the inside of the handle bars, expand to hold into place.

I have bar ends on my motorcyle. They give a much clearer view of what's going on behind. Too bad they won't work on the Stella.

I talked to Dennis about this earlier but what about a mirror that fastens to your wrist?
Kind of like a watch mirror or something similar?

Getting accustomed to a legshield mirror is actually pretty quick and easy. Just getting it aimed right is the trick. And as someone else mentioned, it looks way cool! It really finished off the look of my 2005 Stella you see in the following two pics...

Nice pics, thanks!

My hot rod mirror came today. I'll try to get it put on and post a pic tomorrow.
I like the straight arm on your mirror. Mine is curved. Curved, but cheap, so if no likey, I can get a straight.

I have seen curved ones... they look cool too. Sometimes the hot rod mirrors have gutter clamps... and I am not sure if they clamp right up to the leg shield without some mods. Let us know how it works out!

I see the difference in your clamp and the hot rod. Where did you get your mirror? Is it a Stadium or one of the Stadium types from Scooter Works?

Teddy is your Stella on reserve in that pic or is my scooter just the opposite of yours?

I think you can put it on either side, doesn't matter.

Ok, the hot rod mirror did not work to my satisfaction. It galled up the aluminum trim so I just took it off and am going to order one from Scooter Works unless someone has another source or idea.
The hot rod mirror would have worked if I had wanted to mod the clamp with blocks or something but prefer it to be what its supposed to be.
I sanded the rough spots down on the inside of the trim with emery paper.

OK, I want to revive this topic.

I got my Stella Saturday. :D It's a 2010 Dijon 4T that the dealer needed to get rid of. I talked em down to $2,200. I win, haha.

The first thing I noticed is that the mirrors suck. Literally worthless. My Cali Classic has pretty decent trapezoidal mirrors and I am wondering what people have done to upgrade their mirrors. I don't think I will like the legshield mirror, I don't want to look at my feet to see behind me. So, please, bestow your Stella veteran knowledge upon me so I can actually see the car behind me rather than my shoulders.

Another option is to fit a T5 drinks tray and then bolt a bar end mirror to it.

Very subtle and works perfectly !

I have the circular version of these, both sides, on my fireball. I set one for directly behind me and one for the right side lane. I think they work perfect, and give me a perfect fov.
the only downsides are inherent to any mirror you have on a stella:
vibration, especially at idle, though you don't really need crystal precision there do ya.
My shoulders or helmet have never been an obstacle either
I am 5'9" 175 lb. slightly over average build.

Sweet, thanks double-o-soul. I'm glad I made a good judgment based on the pic, haha, tough to do with little to no info from the website. I think I'll go with the shape I linked tho, because I really like how much of the lane it shows you. Now I just have to find somewhere that has them in stock!

double-o-soul, can you post a picture of the mirrors? I really want to see how they look vs. the stock mirrors. Thanks

Tipper,

This looks awesome, but I just feel like it would be like having the legshield mirrors, in that you really have to take your eyes off the road to see in the mirror. I don't like looking at the speedometer, looking below that seems problematic, but it sure looks cool, 8)

i like the round chrome because it's more in keeping with mod style... I can't go overboard with that crap because i think it looks gauche, but I like to keep it looking stylish.
